If linux isn't the answer, you've probably got the wrong question!

[leaf-user] A question for guitarlynn

2002-07-03 Thread David Pitts

A question for guitarlynn:

Is your DHClient/DHCPserver LRP package also a drop in replacement for
the DHCP packages in Bering?

Also, are there any differences between Dachstein and Bering other than
IPTables and Shorewall? Should Dachstein packages and modules work with
Bering and vice versa?

Thanks.

The Dachstein version of the udhcp package uses network.conf to set a
couple of variables, thus saving the user from having to modify two
files to complete dhcp client configuration (some of the time). The
general LEAF package (that would be used with Bering) does not use
any outside configuration file(s), so you may need to edit
/etc/udhcpc.conf and/or /etc/udhcpd.conf to suit your particular need.
For ethernet external and internal connections, the defaults should be
a drop in replacement.

FYI, the core of Bering is based from Dachstein, however much of the
core networking files are very different. Neither is better, but
definately not the same.

I hope this helps,
