Interesting to note that last night's team and ones in recent games have been
with mostly with players who were here last season/come through the ranks and
the large amount of Summer (foreign) signings largely discarded or on the bench
(all bench payers were summer signings and only 3 summer recruits playing, one
of whom is an english based player).

Coincidence that we have picked up points in recent matches and seem to be
paying better or just wishful thinking?

[LU] Bournemouth reaction

2015-01-21 Thread Richard Naef
to his credit (and he is a really likable man) Eddie Howe didn't moan about
the offside or disallowed goal;

"The big disappointment for us was the way we started and the way we gave
Leeds the chance to get their crowd behind them early in the game.

"Our game-plan was to quieten the crowd and try and make a fast start, but
Leeds put us under pressure and they played well in the first half.

"They scored a good goal and unfortunately for us it just seemed to be one
of those nights when the ball wouldn't go in for us."

Take note Moroninho of a man with class, sometimes you just lose, and it's
not a conspiracy!

Richard

[LU] Have we turned a corner ?

2015-01-21 Thread nat...@sky.com
With 3 games unbeaten and no goals conceded other than penalties (we have had 3
given against us in consecutive games - one v soft, one a fair tackle and one
outside the box) can we believe that we have turned the corner? We have
dispensed with the diamond and have found a way of playing and formation(s)
that suit us. The win last night should be a big boost to the confidence of the
younger lads. Or like the victory over Derby is it another false dawn? We do
need Morison to both play and play well if we go one up top. Also we are going
to be without Bellusci one way or another - ban for the red/ very close to
totting up ban / racism 9 game ban: now like many other fans I have a mixed
view of him, he does some good things especailly on the ball and does give his
all, but he is a liability at times and an accident waiting to happen. Will his
enforced absence help or hinder us ? Can Pearce and Cooper play together, can
Pearce play at all ? Or will Wootton get another chance at centre back? Is
Murphys new found usefulness him fulfilling the promise he had at crewe or is
it a flash in the pan  and he will revert to type. Can we play 90 minutes with
the tempo and high pressing that we did last night or will we keep being worn
out after 60+ mins and spend the last half hour clinging on?So lots of
questions to be answered in the next few weeks but I have never thought we
would go down and yesterday, despite us getting a bit of luck (about time?) has
given me some hope for the future (good hope or the hope that kills you - time
will tell)
So with no game this weekend we can bask in a victory over the League leaders
and those of us who went can lord it smugly over those who chose not to attend

It means more to me when they're homegrown in the sense of having come
through our Academy and are local lads born and bred - just as a proper
Yorkshire cricket team is made up of Yorkies. If they're not of that ilk I
don't care whether they're from Peterborough or Palermo as long as they put
a shift in.

If that question was directed at my post, my comments were not related at all
to what nationality the players are in terms of playing for Leeds, but more a
question as to anybody thought that our slight up turn in form was due to
English based players and Refearns knowledge of them rather than the foreign
players with little experience and tenacity of playing in the Championship.

I prefer players who've come through the academy, since I'm not Leeds born and
bred I don't necessarily care if they're Alan Smith or Harry Kewell, as long as
they have come up through the ranks and do the job. Mind you I remember Smith
scoring his first goal for Leeds when he came on as a sub against 'pool. Nearly
brought tears to my eyes. Yeah I know Kewell is blackballed but when he first
played for Leeds he was bloody dynamite.
Sol Bamba - Seems like its nearly a done deal, anyone any thoughts?

The resurgence first time around under Redfearn was with the "foreign" players.
The two/three best games I saw earlier in October/November was with the
"foreign" players. All the following played in the victory against Derby which
everyone said was an excellent performance:
Silvestri, Bellusci, Bianchi  Adryan , Antenucci, Doukara.
I think the players that came in the Summer are as good if not better (maybe
Doukara excepted) than some of the dross we have had in the last few years.

with mostly with players who were here last season/come through the ranks and
the large amount of Summer (foreign) signings largely discarded or on the bench
(all bench payers were summer signings and only 3 summer recruits playing, one

Coincidence that we have picked up points in recent matches and seem to be

The Silvestri save on the line didn't go in (we are practically in line)

A top, gritty performance.  I also liked how we pressed them back all the

Reborn Murphy in for Bianchi?  Hell yes!  Morison in for Doukara (or

maybe like to see that team/formation away from home more often but at home

Good point and I am not having a go at the 'foreign players' cos they are
foreign more that they lack Championship experience as Redfearn himself has
said. Like you said the Derby win was with a number of new players. Whilst the
jury is still out on a number of them, I think this squad (and team) is far
better quality, in theory, than we have had for many years. This was the team
that played Leicester this time last year but we had more points than this year:

ChampionshipJan 18 Elland Road Leicester City (H) 0-1 (L)
22,678 12
Team: Kenny, Byram, Pearce, Lees, Warnock, Brown, Austin, Kebe, Stewart,
McCormack, Varney. Subs: Peltier/Kebe, Diouf/Varney.

I know which team I would prefer. That subs bench is desperate!
