[LU] Another move to please Rich W

2015-07-14 Thread nat...@sky.com
Phil Hay ‏@PhilHayYEP 15 hrs15 hours ago Also being told that Luke Murphy is
in advanced talks about extending his contract. Current deal runs to 2016,
expected to sign to 2018.
Cardiff fans seems upset at Adeyemi being allowed to leave and come to us, that
is generally a good sign. Looking at transfers it appears we have got rid of
Austin aged 30 and replaced him with a 23 yr old, and will be losing Sharp aged
30 and his replacement (Wood) is 23. So the average age of ,what was already a
young team, is getting younger.

Age can be a bit misleading. Better to have a 21 year old with over 100
matches under his belt (like Byram) than some 23-24 year old who has only
played 50 senior matches due to being down the pecking order at his club.
In midfield, we have plenty of youth, but Murphy is a good age with over
200 matches, Mowatt has 2 solid seasons under his belt, Cook just seems a
naturally mature footballer and this new lad seems a very smart young man.
If you've got a mature yet youthful midfield the need for an older head in
there can be over-rated.

In this respect I always found it a shame we couldn't keep hold of and
develop Lees further - he wasn't perfect, but he'd played an awful lot of
football at a young age for a centre back.

We still lack a wide right and a wide left option and I would also like to
see a new centre-back partner for Bamba. Of those suspect the only one we
will see is a wide left player.

Tom Lees "wasnt perfect"? Come on mate he was shocking for us!
Nothing against the lad, and pleased he is doing well elsewhere, but he was
very poor for us. I agree we also need a central half because Cooper & Wootton
are not the answer. Disappointed we let Del Fabrio go because he never got a
kick.
Still think we need an older head in midfield and a pacey winger although Ajosi
should be given a chance.

I'd agree Lees had a stinking final season for us - and can't blame the
club for letting him go on that basis - but he had looked promising before
that as a solid, if unexciting, centre back. Not saying top class but there
was something there and it's a big plus when a lad at his age has had
several years of first team experience under his belt. Maybe a Bamba-type
mentor figure at the club might have helped (that has to be the hope with
Cooper). Not worth dwelling now though. Can't win them all.

I doubt Ajose is up to it at this level, though we had very limited chance
to assess that last season.

2015-07-14 Thread Conker
Fair point about Lees not having a mentor figure. From what I have seen from
Wednesday's games he still lacks presence, turns like milk and cannot read the
game.

I'm probably clutching at straws with Ajosi. My niece's partner watches Crewe
and positively raves about him.

[LU] Yorkshire help

2015-07-14 Thread [broken-address] Nicholas Armit
Mentioned a while back about trying to make it over from the US in November to
attend a game and now have other ideas and questions.
I am coming with my 13 year old son and we intend staying in Leeds the night of
the game. Then we would like to go somewhere walking the next day with an
overnight stay at a country pub somewhere then back to Leeds the next day to
get back to London. All this will need to be accessible by public transport as
we will not have a car.
So my questions:

   - Any recommendations of somewhere to go walking in the countryside
relatively close to Leeds (maybe no more than an hour away) where we could then
finish off at somewhere we could spend the night? The Dales look close but not
sure if that would be the best place.
   - Would really like to overnight in a pub in the country somewhere. Any
recommendations for a moderate budget? Would really like something traditional.
   - How to get the best (cheapest) tickets to travel from London to Leeds the
morning of the game? This will be November 21st (Rotherham I believe).
Many thanks for any help.

Nick,

For my money I would go for a train in and out of Leeds to somewhere
like Settle and then check out the local spots there for accommodation
(the Lion is one of our favourites http://thelionsettle.co.uk/rooms/).

Cheapest tickets to game will be from
https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/ but tickets for your travel dates
aren't announced yet as you can only book 12 weeks in advance on the
line from London to Leeds.

Please ask any questions however daft you might think they are theres a
lot of useful knowledge here :-)

Re: [LU] Yorkshire help

2015-07-14 Thread Nick
or go a couple of stops past Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale, Ribblehead or
Dent - good walking - first two in reach of three peaks (don’t have to do all 3
in one go) - decent boozers/B&Bs in Dent - couple of pubs in Horton as well…

alternatively, catch the train to Skipton, pick up the High Dales Way coming
back south and you go through Ilkley and onto Saltaire (where you can have a
real ale in Fannys and a curry at the Aagrar) - Skipton to Saltaire is 18 miles
good walking, or if you stop at Ilkley that’s about 10 miles - both Saltaire
and Ilkley are on the train line back to Leeds…

many choices…your biggest problem for walking in Yorkshire might be that you’re
here in November…can be bleak...

or go a couple of stops past Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale, Ribblehead or
Dent - good walking - first two in reach of three peaks (don’t have to do all 3
in one go) - decent boozers/B&Bs in Dent - couple of pubs in Horton as well…

alternatively, catch the train to Skipton, pick up the High Dales Way coming
back south and you go through Ilkley and onto Saltaire (where you can have a
real ale in Fannys and a curry at the Aagrar) - Skipton to Saltaire is 18 miles
good walking, or if you stop at Ilkley that’s about 10 miles - both Saltaire
and Ilkley are on the train line back to Leeds…

many choices…your biggest problem for walking in Yorkshire might be that you’re
here in November…can be bleak...

Re: [LU] Yorkshire help

2015-07-14 Thread Nick

Ingleborough in November should achieve that...

now just wait for Dowden to pick up this email chain…he goes pot-holing and the
like...
