Ha! To be fair I’d have been one of them until I heard Bielsa’s pre match
presser the other day - with praise like that he was bound to be walking like
he was 10 foot tall. Best I’ve seen Ayling for ages - I’ll even let him off the
daft penalty!
I agree - brilliant ball to Alioski for the Harrison goal

Re: [LU] 2-0

2019-02-13 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
Actually, it was just INSIDE the box. More than deserved the win, but hate it
when we nearly blow it like that.

Solid, disciplined team performance, aside from the penalty incident. I thought
Bamford had a great game.

And credit Bielsa for a real change in tactic - 4 minutes to go, 2-1 up but
risking throwing it away, and he took off a midfielder and brought on a
defender. That is the type of pragmatism that has been missing at times this
season, so well done that man!

Win the next 2 and I might just stop watching games from between my fingers :-)

I remember him and agree with all the other comments. Can England get
another World Cup before the 66 team are gone?

Now ready for Swansea in 90 minutes. Is is good or bad to have high
expectations?

Sadly not too young to remember.
For me Gordon Banks WAS goalkeeping in that era.
Even though I loved Sprake and Harvey, when playing schoolboy footie,
everyone would be Banks when in goal.

Lot more respect for the England team in those days, no matter who you
supported.of course.

Nice bloke also. It was a real tragedy when he lost the eye as well.

under the impression some listers don't already read some of Bielsa's wonderful
words.

Today I loved:

a) Acknowledging the drop in form but vehement support for a lad who's been a
stalwart for us:

For me Bill Ayling is a great player. He is a complete player. When I say
complete I mean that he can manage all aspects of the game.

He can defend as a full-back, as he can defend as a centre-back. He has an
aerial game that is not very common for players who play as full-backs. And if
we divide the pitch in three segments, taking into account the right hand side
of the pitch, he defends well, he is very well in playing out, he takes risks
when we have to organise and when we have to use the ball and the only thing
that decreased a little bit is his offensive impact.

...The only thing I can tell about Bill Ayling, that he contribute a little
less in attack and usually he was getting a grade of more than seven points,
now it’s more than six points. [*apparently MB &co rate them all out of 10
after each game]*

But for me he’s a very important player for the team. He is a player that is
an example for his team-mates, for the public, for the fans and in football you
have very few players that don’t have ups and downs...

Maybe I’m not objective. Because I have a very special respect for him, for
what he gives to the team. Because he always assumes and takes risks. And
because he’s influenced for this feature that I admire a lot him. Obviously for
me he’s better than what you think.

And then b) a beautiful football (and life) philosophy:

Nobody wants to concede the first goal.

If we only focused on the fact to prevent the opponent from scoring a goal, we
would be doing something in the way you *[the interviewers]* are proposing.

If we share the energy between creating and defending the possibility for the
opponent to score a goal is higher. This is a scientific analysis, a
mathematical analysis. But from a football point of view if you dominate the
game you have more chances to score goals and more chances not to concede goals.

…..

But you have actions of danger or situations that depend exclusively on the
team who is attacking and you have other actions that are made easier by the
team that is defending.

When you make it easier for the opponent to attack it’s when you make a
mistake. But the mistake is part of football. If there’s something that you
can’t ask to a football player, you can’t tell them ‘take risks but you are not
allowed to make a mistake.’ Because it's just nonsense.

The best ones take risks and don’t make mistakes. Those are very few. If you
tell a player takes risks but you're not allowed to make a mistake, the player
has only one solution - he wouldn't take a risk.

And if you don’t take risks in football games, the game becomes less attractive.

And then the capacity of winning decreases. When you play your way you always
compare yourself to the opponent.

If the only comparison we make is which team is not making mistakes, when two
teams play with the goal of not making a mistake, the game is not attractive.

Cheers

is an example for his team-mates, for the public, for the fans and in
football you have very few players that don’t have ups and downs...

Maybe I’m not objective. Because I have a very special respect for him, for
what he gives to the team. Because he always assumes and takes risks. And
because he’s influenced for this feature that I admire a lot him. Obviously
for me he’s better than what you think.

And then b) a beautiful football (and life) philosophy:

Nobody wants to concede the first goal.

If we only focused on the fact to prevent the opponent from scoring a goal,
we would be doing something in the way you *[the interviewers]* are
proposing.

If we share the energy between creating and defending the possibility for
the opponent to score a goal is higher. This is a scientific analysis, a
mathematical analysis. But from a football point of view if you dominate
the game you have more chances to score goals and more chances not to
concede goals.

…..

But you have actions of danger or situations that depend exclusively on the
team who is attacking and you have other actions that are made easier by
the team that is defending.

When you make it easier for the opponent to attack it’s when you make a
mistake. But the mistake is part of football. If there’s something that you
can’t ask to a football player, you can’t tell them ‘take risks but you are
not allowed to make a mistake.’ Because it's just nonsense.

The best ones take risks and don’t make mistakes. Those are very few. If
you tell a player takes risks but you're not allowed to make a mistake, the
player has only one solution - he wouldn't take a risk.

And if you don’t take risks in football games, the game becomes less
attractive.

And then the capacity of winning decreases. When you play your way you
always compare yourself to the opponent.

If the only comparison we make is which team is not making mistakes, when
two teams play with the goal of not making a mistake, the game is not
attractive.

under the impression some listers don't already read some of Bielsa's
wonderful words.

Today I loved:

a) Acknowledging the drop in form but vehement support for a lad who's been
a stalwart for us:

For me Bill Ayling is a great player. He is a complete player. When I say
complete I mean that he can manage all aspects of the game.

He can defend as a full-back, as he can defend as a centre-back. He has an
aerial game that is not very common for players who play as full-backs. And
if we divide the pitch in three segments, taking into account the right
hand side of the pitch, he defends well, he is very well in playing out, he
takes risks when we have to organise and when we have to use the ball and
the only thing that decreased a little bit is his offensive impact.

...The only thing I can tell about Bill Ayling, that he contribute a little
less in attack and usually he was getting a grade of more than seven
points, now it’s more than six points. [*apparently MB &co rate them all
out of 10 after each game]*

But for me he’s a very important player for the team. He is a player that
is an example for his team-mates, for the public, for the fans and in

Lazy journalism. TBH I think Bielsa is only here for a couple seasons, get us
up and train up someone to take over. Then we'll build a hotel on his name.

I didn't see any comments about the alleged interest in Bielsa from Everton
should their manager get the sack soon (which he will). Who knows if it's just
paper talk, but hopefully MB will see the season out.
