Re: [LU] Spurs

2021-01-03 Thread Alec McQueen
Why would MB not re-sign? He must be having the time of his life... he has free
rein to do what he wants, he has a project that has Bielsa stamped all over it,
the football quality and style he is orchestrating is being heralded by close
to everyone, he is being moderately successful in the best league in the world
with decidedly average players (he knows they are average and so does Rad),
everyone at the club worships him, and his boss has seen him just quadruple the
value of his investment (that’s the way to pease a businessman!) Please let me
know if you know of anyone who is going to walk away from that.

2 things left for him to achieve before he clears off to somewhere else: win
something (most likely a cup), and create the dynasty with a mini-Bielsa
installed to succeed him.

Give him 2 more seasons after this one to achieve both of those. We will then
be firmly re-established as a stable premier league club, the Leeds brand will
be synonymous with speed, style and quality, and we will have another club
legend forever.

Re signings: why would we not improve our squad if we could? You get 2 chances
to do this each year, why would you throw one of them away? Makes no sense to
me.

would be difficult to go out and spend with an eye on next season when we

Re: [LU] Spurs

2021-01-03 Thread nattan--- via Leedslist
I agree too - we are on a huge learning curve, a much higher proportion of
mistakes , a pass a yard out for example,  are pounced on and put away than in
the championship.  Missed chances are more important at this level since we are
creating fewer against better defenders. We are being beaten by the top six
teams because man for man they are better than us in every position- against
lesser sides our work rate and tactics are generally enough to earn a win. We
are doing much better than we could realistically expect and are, at worse
fighting with 4 or 5 other teams to avoid the last relegation place ( no way
back for sheff U or WBA)
The club have consistently said we are not in the market for new signings in
January unless a cheap gem falls into our lap.
Re Ben White, who was top notch for us last season, we were not missing him
when Koch was fit , and over the next 2 seasons the German centre back, and a
Spanish squad defender will be better for us than a lad still learning his
trade ( white lost his man for the first goal according to MOTD) so you can all
stop dreaming about his return
As Rob and others have said, let's enjoy the season , playing great football
with no real pressure on results ( every defeat last season was a dagger in the
heart, thiss season it is more " oh well") or enjoy it as much as you can when
not in the ground and no atmosphere when watching on TV.
A nice cup run would be fun especially since it should not affect our league
prospects,  I would hate us to become a team with no ambition beyond staying up
We are a work in progress,  making up for 14 years of mismanagement and 16
years out of the top flight
We have a team we can be proud of and some exciting youngsters to make our
future bright
Long live Bielsaball
Dave

OK I know I'm going to be accused of arrogance again, but..you guys
just don't get Bielsaball. The style of play he demands from his players
requires them to take huge risks with the ball every time they have it. He
understands that they won't get it right every time, he understands the danger
that they will give the ball away (sometimes in very dangerous
places..sometimes leading to goals against us), but he believes that
the potential benefits are worth it.

What is astonishing for me is the number of times they risk so much and it
comes offsome breathtaking rat-tat-tat of one touch passes, each
one perfectly weighted and angled.

You guys can get all hot under the collar as much as you like about the CHs we
aren't going to buy and the replacements for Bamford we aren't going to
buy.but Bielsa knows that gradually these boys are getting the hang
of this league, they're getting better by the day, and he's in it for the long
haul. The last thing he will want is to try and add a new player to the group.

An alternative analysis of this game is that the Curse of London has hit us yet
again. When we play in London, you can guarantee that if there is a foul right
on the edge of the box, it will be a pen, and if the ball is clawed back as it
crosses the line, it will be over by 1 mm. Somehow, not even Bielsa seems to be
able to find a way to overcome this problem.

[LU] "half-time report" from the Guardian

2021-01-03 Thread Nick
I think he has this about right:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/03/premier-league-fans-half-term-reports-part-one-arsenal-to-leicester
Leeds
Our target is staying up, and look: our promoted peers Fulham
and West Brom are in the
relegation places, and we’ve already won as many games as Norwich managed all
last season. We never want to lose 6-2 at Old Trafford, but other clubs’ fans
seemed more angry about the game than we were. The best part so far might be
putting everyone at war about the way we play. 8/10

Stars and flops Nobody predicted Patrick Bamford would be having sleepless
nights on the eve of England squad announcements, but he’s revelling. A big
shout-out to Illan Meslier for rewriting the rule that says you need experience
to stop shots in the Premier League. But Covid means we’re yet to see the best
of record-signing Rodrigo.

Happy with the manager? Hahahahaha. What do you think? Marcelo Bielsa has
extended his strolls around Wetherby to walking on the River Wharfe. When
disaffection might be rearing up we see the Baggies swapping Bilic for
Allardyce and remember, there but for the grace of God. Or Bielsa. 9/10, a mark
off because we can’t defend corners. Or anything.

We need to sign You’ve seen our defending, right? You think we’re going to sign
somebody, right? Wrong. If Bielsa gets a player in January, he doesn’t use them
until March, post-reprogramming. We’re very likely to stick, not twist.

Moment that made me smile in 2020 The Championship title. Our half-drunk
players outrunning Derby and beating them 3-1

before earning an FA fine for pyro at Pride Park helped make up for the fans’
absence.
