Re: [LU] Fwd: Cardiff

2023-08-08 Thread Steve Gillen
My main frustration from Sunday was watching our talented and skillful front
players tip tapping it from one to the other. Towards the end I was literally
shouting at the TV (I was unable to go to this game) "for f***s sake will
someone shoot"? - people have been awful to poor Paddy but I have always rated
him, I have known very few with the skill to hold things until support arrives
as well as he does. And he does shoot, even if he misses, he at least has a go.
If Paddy can't be brought back and soon, then Sunday taught me that a proven
goal scorer has to be our priority.

Thank goodness Summerville took the advice and tried a shot.

My problem with trying to ‘analyse’ where the club is at is at is that until
the transfer window closes we have no idea who is staying. I doubt Gnonto will
be at Leeds, rumours are rife about Summerville wanting a move, but key for me
will be if an unfit Adams can be held onto? If we were to lose all 3 then
hopefully replacements have been targetted, but we will undoubtedly be weaker.
Adams aside, I can’t think of a single Leeds player who hasn’t been criticised

Agree re James, his whole career has been complaints about his final ball/ end
product. When teams come a sit deep,  as most will this season his speed is
largely nullified.   So he may be better away from  home or as you say, when we
are  in the lead. In fairness he had a good shot well saved  and did ' score'
albeit ayling who crossed was offsideWith regards Ayling i was surprised hear
adam pope and the lad from the kaisers talking about how good he was going
forward and blamed his defence mistakes on Gnonto ( or Summerville cant recall
) and the general system we played.  Game of opinons i suppose, but i view him
as a liability a bit and hope he doesn't stay too long and spoil his " legacy "
a great servant and  possibly  best bargain of them all
It will be interesting to see the line up tomorrow,  he needs to get it right
between resting players for a long hard season and getting the first team used
to each other and his tactics.
Also as a Prem league team, these games were selling out ( often, certainly
near me with fans who did not have STs and struggled for tickets for league
games, do the crowd will be interesting / telling since league games will still
be sold out

Cody Drameh can't get fit fast enough for me. Ayling has been a marvelous
servant to the club, but he's no longer a good enough defender to start for a
club aiming for promotion. We know for a fact (given his Luton experience last

Bit late to this, but yes, Dave, pretty much agree with that.

Ayling and Cooper are creaking - despite Cooper’s cracking goal - for Cooper
the judgement now is whether his undoubted leadership qualities makes up for
the declining / limited qualities as a defender. Hjelde looked at sea as a left
back. Dan James is fast and unguided - he doesn’t do enough with the ball once
he has it, hopefully we will get a fit and engaged Harrison back soon

On the plusses though Cresswell and Byram came on and did well - Byram added
some zip and confidence down the left. Looking forward to seeing what Drameh
can bring as well - we might have a decent and young back five in a couple of
weeks. I suspect it is not worth getting too hung up on Meslier, who I think is
a fine young keeper but who is shell-shocked after the last 18 months behind
our defence - the same could be said of Struijk - because who knows how long
Meslier will remain at the club.

Gray and Ampadu were quality in the middle - Ampadu gets his foot in, and makes
good use of the ball, while Gray looks very accomplished - hope his progress
continues.

The kind of total football forward line of Sinisterra, Somerville and Gnonto
(and James) where everyone doesn’t really have a position, but just roam and
cause havoc where they can, really looks like a promising way forward…if we can
keep everyone - or most of them given we have Jack H and Poveda - who came on
and had a very effective 20 minutes or so - to factor in.

Promising indeed.
