we should have been 3 up in the first half .I think we are much stronger at the

able to field a stronger bench - both Costa and Alioski made a big contribution

travel to Elland Road from some distance away, which is easier to do on a

You'd think that for someone who does his research (and some) that he never
picked up on what the Stoke manager said, as to why we struggled (bizarre ref
decisions apart)

"It’s been well publicised Marcelo watched 26 Luton games and two Stoke games,
so he’s well drilled on what our usual formation is, so we thought we may have
to give him a surprise because, if he’s that well drilled on us, they’ve had
plenty of time to work on it, so it’d be a difficult afternoon.

“We felt with the threats they’ve got and to give us the best chance to win the
match we needed to be tactically right at it and I thought we were.”

Must admit, I don't get the Luton reference. Was Jones the Luton manager
previously?

So as expected Casilla is going to start - just hope he is ready for a bit of
an aerial bombardment especially from set pieces and long throws. With Phillips
replacing the (wrongly) suspended Pontus we will need the keeper to be dominant
in the air.
We really need to get the 3 points tomorrow and get back to winning ways - as
Bielsa says it is odd that Stoke, as he says our worse performance came on the
back of our best one.
Get the win tomorrow and it will set us up nicely for the Norwich game - one of
3 massive 6pointer home games between now and the end - Norwich, West Brom and
Sheff U all have to visit us - 9 points from those 3 games and things will be
looking good, 0 points on the other hand just does not bear thinking about.
One big worry is that apart from Derby (our only double so far) all the 'return
games' have had the opposite result - Blackburn lost then won, Forest & Stoke
won at home but then lost away - Hull won away then lost at home. IF repeated
with the top 3 - we would beat WBA but lose the other two!

Casilla should be a good addition, and if we can get James sorted and Bamford
fit (started full training again today) then we have got a decent chance of
promotion  especially if the second half of the season is kinder than the first
in terms of injuries - as Phil Hay pointed out we have had 13 different back
four combinations this season !

I am so furious that the French government has caved in to a bunch of
attention-seeking morons who just want to post selfies in front of piles of
burning pallets and get on the rolling news channels. Their "like" ratings
on Instagram are much more important than the fact that the planet is
burning up because everybody drives around in petrol vehicles with impunity.

I want Leeds United to be in the Premier League. I don't think it's fair
that such a great club has been kept out of the top division for all these
years. There's obviously been a conspiracy to prevent us getting promotion;
witness the 58 games with a for-against penalty count of 0:10, or Pontus
getting banned whilst Charlie Austin got off scot free for the same offence.

I'm going to tie a Leeds scarf around my head and go out to a roundabout on
the edge of town and stop all the traffic until the authorities give in and
put Leeds into the PL. Who's with me?

[LU] Leeds and plastic pitches

2017-01-30 Thread tim.whelan
I've just been checking our record on plastic pitches.

I went to QPR in 1983, when we lost 1-0 (an own goal by Paul Hart). They got
promoted that day, so I'm sure that was the only time we played on plastic at
Loftus Road.We lost 1-0 at Luton in 1990/1, and their plastic pitch was dug up
at the end of that season.
I think just leaves Oldham as the only venue where we've avoided defeat on
plastic (several visits in various competitions from 1986 to 1990).
Preston were the only other League club to have had a plastic pitch, but I
don't think we ever played on it.

Our total record in the above games, plus yesterday, amounts to won 1, drawn 3,
lost 7.

I can't think of any other competitive games Leeds have played on plastic, but
do correct me if I'm wrong.

I was hoping we'd emulate the West Brom side of 1931, still the only team to
have won the FA Cup and been promoted in the same season.
But seriously folks, it would have been nice to have avoided the embarrassment
of losing to Sutton, before going out to a proper team in the 5th round.
Although I do have a reason to be thankful we lost. I'd already committed
myself to being in East Anglia on the weekend of Feb 18th, and the league game
at Ipswich will now take place on that day.

We lost to Histon a few years ago.  Sutton's loss today is not in the same
league, pun intended!  Big deal.  Big bloody deal.  I felt much more pain
losing at home to PNE in the league a few years back 6-4, after being 4-1
up, together with many more utter debacles in this league over the last
dozen+ years than *any* of our last 20 years' cup exits...

I've gotten only one "haha" text, from a Scum fan and that was only in jest.
I can take that.  What real embarrassment?  No one else cares about The FA
Cup nowadays, so why should we!  Sutton, FFS!

If we go up at the end of the season, no one give a second thought to what
happened today.  What would people really prefer: a run to the semi-finals
(we have not been past the 6th round in many seasons) and come 7th, or go
out now and pretty much guarantee a play-off spot.  I know which I would
much prefer!  Would seem to be that Monk and the owners are of the same
opinion.

The crying and whinging that is taking place on the list tonight is a tad
embarrassing.  Grow a pair, boys and girl(s)!

Don't we need Pontus to play one more game before we can trigger the clause to
allow us to make a permanent signing? But there are only three more games
before the end of the transfer window, and he's already suspended for two of
them. So don't we need the Derby and Barnsley games to go ahead so he can play
in the FA Cup at Sutton or AFCW?(Blackburn away is Feb 1st, but I assume that's
after the transfer window shuts).

If I'm correct in this, then no, it wouldn't be better to "put it off until a
time when Pontus is available again".

You could say we've had a tough start, with all four teams we've failed to beat
being in the top seven, though on the other hand the fact those teams have
taken points of Leeds has helped them get up there.

Our next two opponents are as far apart as they could be, with Huddersfield
being top and Blackburn bottom!

And now we've got Gareth Southgate as the favourite to be next England manager.
A man with the personality of a dishcloth, who got Middlesbrough relegated the

He might be OK as a coach or an assistant, but he's not a number 1. If he gets

Under the terms of the 2004 sale, the club has the right to re-purchase Elland
Road at any time, though the price goes up every year according to a set
formula. But the current owners are not obliged to sell to any other party.
Cellino could make them an offer, but the chances are they would ask for a

[LU] Wasting time while being substituted

2016-01-16 Thread tim.whelan
Is obviously a specialty of those born in Argentina of Italian descent.

Forestieri took ages to leave the pitch today, but his timewasting wasn't quite
up to Becchio standards. I remember the game when we had to Bristol Rovers to
get promoted and Becchio was substituted with Leeds holding a 2-1 lead with 10
men. He not only applauded the crowd as he went off (as Forestieri did today)
but went back to shake the referee's hand before he finally left the field.
Now that is proper timewasting.

Re: [LU] Sol Bamba II

2015-06-24 Thread tim.whelan
His lack of pace was cruelly exposed in that home game with Watford (when they
came from 2 down to beat us 3-2) but in this division there won't be that many
teams who are that good on the break. I don't remember any other shockers in
the games I saw.

I think it was something we had to do - whether he will become our new hero or
the new O'Brien / Zakulucas (sp) time will tell. His appearances last season
did suggest that he can go either way - at least one shocker amongst mainly
solid performances. I would have been disappointed if we had allowed him to go
but a decent full time contract can take all the pressure off

Well I for one am hoping he develops leaders into a true Leeds legend. My blood
tells me there is something  special on the horizon this season! A year on who
will tell?

Isn't the problem with mixed matches the risk of a female player being injured
by a full-blooded tackle from one of the men?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha… ho?
So, it's really not legal for a woman to play in the English league? Would that
stand up in the British court system.

Don't know I'm not a lawyer, but the FA rules don't allow mixed teams over the
age of 16, does that count as legal or
not?http://www.thefa.com/News/2013/may/mixed-football-extension-u15.aspxdamn
those facts… ;)

[LU] Becchio or Morison?

My mate from Norwich tells me they only signed Becchio so they could get rid of
Morison, as they knew Leeds didn't have the money to pay a transfer fee for
