Re: [LU] Becchio speaks
I have little against Becchio. He was a striker paid to score goals - he did - lots of them! Albeit from a yard or two, that makes no difference given the limited supply and support. He was flexible and adaptable enough to see his place in the team setup and did us proud. There does appear to be a well trodden transfer path between us and Norwich - we've turned into a player supply line for a top flight team, I find this mildly humiliating, but then we are no longer a big club so in some ways it's fair pickings. Let's hope the new blood comes good - you never can tell. Got to agree with much of (what I assume is) the thinking behind Dr Mikes post. Personally I wish Becchio well and hope he does the best he can with the skills that he has. It takes many different things to make up a football team. I also agree to a considerable extent about Smith though I'm not sure that we would have been liquidated. There would have been dire consequences but not I think liquidation. Any alternative which kept us out of the dead clutches of Bates would have been for the better, but then we knew that even before Bates actually took over. The recovery from Bates begins in a very dark place and from a very low point. It is something very deep inside the club and possibly inside the fans. The malaise might get even worse before it gets better. (For example I'm not yet rushing back to buy tickets as my heart isn't back in it yet. It's too soon and the pain is still there). It might be the best that we can hope for is that the rate of decline has been slowed although perhaps not yet turned around. Anything better than that is really a bonus. There is a very feint spark deep in the darkness and that spark is that we can now at least hope. Until a few short weeks ago our only hope was that Bates would go one way or another. Now at least we can hope to begin our recovery. That's if GFH-C turn out to be kosher of course (Sorry Mike :-) ) ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
Re: [LU] Becchio speaks
Wouldn't want to take issue with much of what RW says also. Becchio is undoubtedly a poor footballer but he probably knows that and many similarly limited footballers don't play as strikers so they can hide their limitations better and expectations of them are much lower. He is probably punching way above his realistic level but good luck to him for that. I can understand why RW just wants him to do it somewhere else. Whilst he was with us he did what he could with what he had. We are used to better than that -or at least I vaguely remember that we used to be. There is certainly very little feeling of loss to the team and it should permit greater variations in approach. That alone should bring an improvement. ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
