First to win FA Cup and be relegated in the same year…yes. But, as I recall,
Boro was a losing finalist in both cups the year they were relegated and went
on to play in Europe out of the Championship the following season…and came
right back up.
I wonder, though, where Martinez will go. Had they stayed up I'd think he'd
have been headed back to Spain and a high profile job ('praps even Barca). Not
so sure now.

I've often wandered if an FA Cup winning team managed to be relegated from the Premiership / Top Flight in the same season Shoot me down if I'm wrong, but it could be that Wigan (currently losing 4-1 to Arsenal) may be the first club to do this. Perhaps this is why they were deciding whether or not to parade the FA Cup. Bet they'd happily relinquish the Cup to avoid relegation. They are the first to win the FA Cup and get relegated in the same season.
