Re: [LU] Saints game

2011-08-08 Thread Richard Walker
So was the second half any better - marginally. I thought between 50 and 60
minutes we were well on top.

There's no way Saints were 3 goals better than us. Chaplow has always impressed
me and he made them solid in the middle.

Maybe I was expecting worse.

I thought Clayton was our best player - he looks very decent but should come
more for the ball like Kilkenny. I also thought Max and Howson were lively and
gave it their all in a very disjointed team performance.

I was disappointed with O'brien, Snodgrass , Dea (passing and crossing, he
looks
like Ian Harte without the nice left foot), Kisnorbo for the second goal,
Brown for trying to play like an 18 year old and Paynter for just not producing
again.

BUT I think there's enough quality in that squad to do ok this season but we
need Grayson to look beyond a 4-5-1 system that hasn't worked since last year.

Id go 4-4-2 against Boro

I'd swap O'Brien for Bruce and play aidy white at left back
I'd play Clayton and Howson in the centre
and Paynter and McCormack up front.

I don't think Paynter deserves a place but we haven't got many options as Uncle
Ken won't put his hand in his pocket and Grayson thinks we don't need a striker
even though his two top scorers from last season are injured.

I'd also have a good look at Snodgrass's fitness before picking him. Sam would
be my preference on that showing.

So I've just watched the first half and I'd say:

Snodgrass and O'Brien are not fit. Snodgrass has spent the Summer in the pub
and

we've seen this with him before when he's come back after a break. Grayson
should put Sam on now.

On a sort of positive I'd say there's no way that we have been outplayed -
we've

had as much possession but we look disjointed with the new players and also the
4-5-1 which doesn't give Mcormick a chance.

Brown spent the first 10 mins running round like a man possessed. All wasted
effort because he hsan't got the legs to play like he did 10 years ago. He
should slow his game and play more like Batty did.

Clayton looks good but needs more of the ball.

The goals - I'd blame the first on lack of understanding between Clayton and
Brown, They came together and Brown lost his man.

The second was just poor defending first by Kisnorbo who gave his man far too
much space = he never did that and then O'Brien who was just slow and flat
footed.

Second half now.

Talking of Bruce, what has happened to him? On the 2 or 3 occasions I saw
him play last season he looked ok, the odd mistake being down to him having
to cover for the donkeys around him. He couldn't even get on the bench ahead
of Bromby on Saturday. Has he been a naughty boy?
