Re: [LU] Brum

2019-12-30 Thread Robert Heath
I was walking around Rome with family. I asked my son (who is never not
glancing at his phone) to keep me abreast of events. Updates
were...2-1 up...they've equalised...it's 3-2 now.
Then we got to the station for our train and I said "It should be over
now"...let me check...it's 4-4! What?! Is it all
over?errr, no it's about 5 mins into injury time - oh, we've
scored! It's 5-4! Great, who scored? Err..Harding. What?! Are you
sure it was us who scored? Errr...Harding own goal!

How do we stand it???!!!

Re: [LU] Brum

2019-12-30 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
I watched on Facebook whilst trying to supervise 4 kids at Stockheld Park. As
you can imagine my parenting skills were called into question.
It was a good game to watch but despite the brilliance of the result and the
way we continued to break and look for goals I felt pretty pissed off for long
periods of the game as our defence and midfield was totally over powered by an
aggressive Brum team. It was good that we caught them cold in the first 20 mins
because after that I thought they dominated and our midfield for the second
time in a week were outplayed, outclassed and out fought. This led to our
defence being on the back foot for long periods. We play Philips to give us
that protection in front of the back four but when he plays against players
with pace and creativity he’s left for dead. Anyone who thinks Philips is
anything other than an average championship midfielder is not watching the
games closely enough.
From what was the most solid defence in the league we’re now look very
vulnerable especially against set pieces. However, if you think back we really
haven’t defended set pieces well all season and have been lucky at times to
concede more.
Our keeper was terrible yesterday- the way he came for their 3rd was non-league
standard and what the hell he was doing for 2 of the other goals. You can’t
plan for mistakes like that.
Ayling got all the headlines for his goal and attacking runs that won us the
game but his defending and passing were woeful.
So whilst it’s amazing to be top of the league at the end of the year and 9
points clear of 3rd I think the next few games will define our season. Bielsa
has work to do.

Re: [LU] Brum

2019-10-21 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
The only thing I'd disagree with is that I think Brum did offer a fair bit in
the second half and it was very worrying to see the confidence just drain away
from us to the point where they took complete control and we were reduced to
playing on the break. I think they had one or two decent players who once they
go the belief an us ragged.
I think first half we had all the possession about 80 corners but didn't create
much which is becoming a familar story.

salute at the Leeds line, It was back to my spiritual home of Elland Road where
I have been visiing every fortnight for 45 of its 100year history.
I gave the celebrations a miss, I prefer to remembr my idols and heroes as fit
young men (oo er missus) running down the wing, crunching into tackles etc
rather than as bald,, fat shuffling old fellows (no offence) and was more
interested in the present and would it affect todays today's performance rather
than wallowing in the past.
General Haigh, as the only non Bielsa fan in our group calls him, did what
Haigh always did and stuck with the same team and same plan (we did point out
that Haigh did win the war but his retort about how long and how many lifes
etc, kind of derailed the football talk.
We started brightly enough with a rasping shot by Alioski bringing about a
good save. Then we had 3 chances in 1 but no goal to show for it. A lovely ball
over the top fell to Bamford in the box but instead of shooting he did a lovely
back heel to Costa whose shot was blocked and came back to Dallas who played a
neat one two with Klich and then fired a shot right at the keeper, good
football but nothing to show for it. When the moans / excitement had died down
a bit  a lad near me made the observation "That is why Bamford will never be a
top goal scorer , can you imagine Clarke, Chapman or Beckford passing in that
position?" and it is true the real out and out scorers have always been greedy
and a bit lazy generally. Bamford on the other hand was working so hard on and
off the ball that my mate (correctly) surmised, he is only going to play half a
game.
We contined to domnate but create few real chances and converted none. We did
look mainly secure at the back with the much maligned Berardi alongside the
immaculate White, with some help from Kiko keeping out the Birmingham long
throws and set pieces. Somewhat unbelievably we have the best defensive record
in the Division.
So half time came and all the old worries about domination with nothing to
show started to affect the crowd, would this be another home game where we
control the game but throw away the points?  eddie came on at half time but did
little of real note though he did win a free kick that was given literally
inches outside the box, the referees spray touching the penatly area marking.

We lost our way a bit in the second half and nerves were starting to show when
Harrison, who had a good game, nipped in and stole the ball and then for the
3rd game in a row set up his teammate for the goal. This time it was Kalvin
whose shot was pretty much at the keeper but had enough power to go through him
and into the net. Maybe fitting that a Leeds lad got the goal in the 100th
birthday game.
They offered little in reply but we were looking a bit ragged and Bielsa went
ful General Haigh and did his now usual move of bringing on Douglas and moving
Alioski further foward to shore things up. This time thankfully it did just
about work and alioski should have perhaps created a second goal instead of
blasting high and wide from a yard out but from an impossible angle rather than
pulling it back for Eddie.. Anyway in the end despite last minute wobbles and
them missing a glorious chance when they put a free header over the bar it was
another 3 points and another clean sheet. Beating a team who did the double
over us last season
2 hard away games coming up but Pablo is almost back (30mins for under 23s on
Friday) and Costa did look decent in short spells. Lack of goals still the big
probelm but onwards and upwards for another 100 years !

As someone once said, football is played on grass not paper and stats on give a
1 dimensional view. BUT same team, same ground on Tuesday and we got away with
Preston's early chances, on Satdi we didn't. The glaring issue is that we have
to start games like we finish them - I trust that is at the forefront of el
Loco's mind at them moment and we'll see something different in the forthcoming
matches

I think we'll need Forshaw if he's fit on Friday, in for Alioski should have a
break and maybe Klitch playing slightly wider instead?

Apart from Dallas's half decent shot Late on I don't remember their keeper
having to make a decent save in 98 minutes of football so you can forget the

Re: [LU] Brum

2018-09-23 Thread Nick
he did win a couple - but the knock downs went nowhere - I tell you who did win
f*ck all in the air yesterday, Pontus against the 9 or 10 - he was truly
bullied out defending properly in the air - they were big, awkward and physical
just the kind of forwards both Cooper and Jansson are supposed to be ideally
suited for…second best all game…and then when you think where both goals were
scored from, isn’t that exactly where Phillips was supposed to be…small wonder
he came off.

Yup - we miss Pablo alright - Saiz misses Pablo, because when both are on, the
other team has two headaches, with Pablo absent they can just concentrate on
Saiz

There was 11 minutes added time all told - that’s a lot of ‘injuries’.

I don’t think we can complain much about yesterday, they came and did a job and
we were mugged; neither can we complain about the season so far, we deserve to
be where we are; 9 games in, its a better record than anyone else and against
some of the toughest teams in the league. We need to push on, we need to find
answers to questions about teams defending deep and with some discipline. But
in the end, we have more that will cause other teams to have headaches…lets
play to our strengths.

Re: [LU] Brum

2018-09-23 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
Had too much beer pre-match to do a comprehensive and accurate report but my
overriding thought from the North East Upper was Brum were big, strong and
highly organised with a couple of lively players up front. Just about
everything you would expect from a Gary Monk team. Coupled with the fact I
thought everyone of our players had a poor game so much so that I'd give our
MOTM to Dallas who came on late and actually made their keeper do something in
8 minutes of injury time (was it really or was that the beer ?).

It comes back to the lone striker up front problem at home and when you're
playing with Philips as a mopping up 3rd central defender then it makes sense
that if you're gonna struggle. Roberts who was tidy with possession never
looked like scoring because he rarely got into the box.

I don't think that team yesterday is good enough for promotion and if you look
at the results since we lost Pablo it's mid table form and that's where I
expect us to end up without a decent striker and Pablo.

Disappointing.

Hopefully this isn’t the wheels coming off like last year.
Thought the game started very similar to Tuesday with Brum pressing and us
struggling to get going.
Difference today was we gifted them two soft goals, BPF at fault for both for
me, and they had something to hold on to and could have scored again.
Frustrating because a win would have put us three clear at the top.
Seen a lot of moaning about their gamesmanship and the ref but neither of them
forced us into giving away soft goals or not having a shot on target in the
first half.
I’m not ready to chuck it all in yet - I’m seeing this as a blip not as a major

Re: [LU] Brum

2017-12-30 Thread Simon McNally
Games like this are so frustrating- I want to see us coming out strong and
attacking teams like Brum.
They’re bottom, struggling for a win so instead we stand off and let them
control the game.
Perhaps we genuinely lack the calibre of player to dominate a game like this
and hopefully we’ll sign one in January.
Have never understood the Roofe love in on RL. He’s scored more goals than I
though he would and to be fair to him he looks composed one on one but like
Rich says he’s just not strong enough to play up front on his own. Would like
to see him up top with Lasogga.

Scores from me after a few wines and consideration:
Wieldwald - 4. Could have done better for the goal and I'm fed up with him
throwing out to our full backs and immediately putting them under pressure.
This tactic does not work.
Ayling - 5. The player who has lost confidence and form more than any other.
Beradi - 5. Not a left back, captain
Jansson - 9. Our best player by a mile. He must be gutted.
Cooper - 4. Had one of those performances that we know he is always likely to
have. A complete liability.
Shaughnessy - 1. I counted one defensive header and one decent bit of control
and square ball as his only contribution to the game which seemed to go on
around him but he seemed incapable of getting to grips. Definitely the biggest
blunder of his Leeds management for me for TC on this selection. The guy is no
way a midfielder.
Philips - 4. Well he wasn't the worst midfielder on show today which makes a
change but despite trying to get forward he failed again in midfield. Just not
good enough.
Cibiki - 0.5 He contributed less than Shaughnessy and when you've got 2 players
in midfield who are doing less and looking less ineffective than Philips you've
got a serious problem. He strolls around with his ponytail and his clinique
cream on - an absolute impostor. Get rid.
Hernandez - 5. Tried to make this happens but was playing with 3 leg irons.
Roofe - 2. He got the ball 6 times and everytime he either slipped and gave it
away of was muscled off the ball. He managed one half decent cross but showed
that he can't play as the lone striker.
Allioski - 2, No control , no nothing. He only looks decent when Siaz is on the
pitch and is feeding him.
Subs:
Siaz - 7, Made things happen but not enough unfortunately.
Lasogga - too late
Klitch - did nowt
TC - shocking tactics. I am not convinced at all. I think if he'd played a
midfield of Siaz, Hernandez, Anita and Allioski with Lasogga and Roofe up front
and really gone for this we would have won it.

Having just seen the highlights things to comment:
- Saiz attempted Rabona shot. What a guy!- Brilliant pass by Hernandez through
his own legs.- We seemed to be closing down spaces all over the place. With
Monk despite the defensive set-up we always seemed to be a bit last-ditch
tackle which put a lot of pressure on the defence.

Nice report & I agree with it all.  The main feature last night was just the
lack of 'sparkle' in us, which  meant we were half a yard off the previous

it made Saiz looked like one of those players who tries to be clever all the
time, to no real effect, when previously he's looked awesome.  All of which
allowed a busy Brum team to get into the game.  Our defence (especially Pontus)
were great, and we never really looked in much danger of losing, but a draw was
certainly a possibility.  I thought Alioski looked the most lacklustre, which
is odd, given that he'd had a rest on Saturday.

"we are top the league, say we are top the league" - repeat and repeat Hard to
believe but we are indeed top of the league with a very impressive 17 pts from
7 games and a brilliant goal difference of 12 - with just two conceeded.
Ok last night was not Burton re-visited but i felt overall we deserved the 3
points in a hard fought game that ebbed and flowed in terms of possession,
terrority and chances.
We started very well, pretty much where we left off at Burton - really getting
at them, disturbing their rythmn and forcing them into errors. When we had the
ball we passed and moved it pulling them all over and creating gaps. It was a
joy to watch again, and it was no surprise when we scored - already forcing one
save and one goal line clearance from them. The goal whilst not a classic did
have a lot going for it - a lovely long ball over the top (from O'Kane ?) led
to Lasogga and the defender chasing it , Lasogga used his strength and power to
win the ball and then he hit it from a tight angle - he shoots as hard as
anyone we have had since Yeboah- and the keeper could only parry it. Saiz
showed both bravery and awareness following it in and beating both two
defenders and the keeper to force it over the line. it brought to mind the time
i lost it with Kilkenny at Tranmere away when he bottled it in similar
conditions. This showed that Saiz is more than just the maestro.
After the goal we tried to continue giving an exhibition but we looked
complacent and were over-doing it. You need to earn the right to play like that
and we had not done it. So from being brilliant we began to be sloppy and let
them get a foothold in the game. We nearly paid for our slackness when the
keeper came for  a ball in a bit of a mix up and the Birmingham forward beat
him to it and the header looped over Wiedwald and towards the goal. However we
do not like conceeding goals and so Luke Ayling popped up out of nowhere with a
tremendous goal saving clearance So we just about went in at half time one up
and just about deserved it.

We hoped to come out second half pumped up but failed to do so and the game was
pretty even for the next 30 minutes - we even saw Wiedwald make a save ! At the
other end Lasogga and Saiz both came close.  On the hour the largely
disappointing Alioski was taken off and replaced by Roofe who was unlucky not
to start. Roofe did add an edge of quality and commitment but by this time we
were starting to look leggy and tired. Lasogga especially looked ready to drop.
This allowed Brum to take a bit of control without ever really threatening as
Pontus just headed away anything in the air Our rthymn and choices for
substituions were further hampered as Cooper started limping and had to be
subbed. Beradi coming on and Ayling being moved to centre half.  We continued
to look solid at the back but most fans were nervously watching the clock and
hoping for it to speed up Then horror of horrors, somehow the referee found 5
minutes of time to be added on. A worrying gasp went round the crowd, could
we last out ? We even got a break and took it into the corner to waste time -
a sure sign of the team wanting the final  whistle.

Then just as we worried a bit Lasogga got the ball just over the half way line
and as he passed it forward to Dallas (on as a late sub for Hernandez) he was
fouled - great this would see out a few more seconds we thought, but no, the
ref decided to wave play on (rubbish decision we all thought in the
circumstances) as Dallas ran forward with the ball then cut inside and hit a
shot just inside the near post - 2 0 and only a minute to go . Another win,

500! Ha - what a joke.

Thing about Redknapp is he's never done anything of real note and what he has
achieved has been either through a very lucky glut of really good young players
or by spending an unreasonable amount of cash.

Redknapp quote from Birmingham Mail
That was the first time I really felt I have seen a football team since I have
been at Birmingham,” he said.“No disrespect, I felt tonight you saw a team
tonight that had come to Leeds, good team, big crowd and really dominated the
game.“The second half was complete and utter domination, we just couldn’t get
the break we needed.”
Clearly a manager who is trying to deflect from the fact they lost again ! Very
much in the Colin mould is Harry- never his fault and with only 500 Brum fans
to tell anyone differently he may fool them for a bit longer

I didn't hear Rednapp's comments but if he said that he's delusional and
obviously a manager under pressure. They had 2 or 3 decent players with Jota
being the man of the match however he should have been, he cost over 6 million.

Re: [LU] Brum

2017-09-13 Thread Nigel Sykes
Nice report & I agree with it all. The main feature last night was just the
lack of 'sparkle' in us, which meant we were half a yard off the previous
pace, and many of the first-touch passes just didn't come off. In particular,
it made Saiz looked like one of those players who tries to be clever all the
time, to no real effect, when previously he's looked awesome.

Another win,
another clean sheet and "we are top the league"
So not a classic performance after the first 30minutes and whilst I disagree
big time with Redknapp and his "complete and utter domination" comments I do
think they slightly shaded the second half without ever really looking like
scoring. I think had it stayed at 1 0 we would have gone 'yeah, fair result'
So the 6 points that we wanted from the two home games and our solid defending
goes on.

Ta for the report Dave. I think it's a positive that we had to really work for
it last night,
 - maybe some of the complacency from players and fans might be reassessed?
Also, 4 of the teams we've beaten are in the bottom 6, so the Forest/Brum games
are more useful in terms of a marker for where we are. Still, the table doesn't
lie, and we're top of the pile! Lasogga does really twat it I agree, and at
this point gets it on target - if he can do this for 20 plus matches he will
become a Leeds legend.

Re: [LU] Brum

2015-10-04 Thread Richard Walker
Completely agree with everything Dave has said but would actually emphasise how
bad this was and how concerned I am with (a) progress under Rosler so far (b)
the quality of the players that are being brought in (c) the reliance on
players who have already proved they are not good enough.
Rosler wants to play 4-3-3 but actually in a game like yesterday, where Brum
sat back and watched us painfully try to mount attacks, it's 4-5-1 because
neither 'winger' is able to get down the wing and ends up getting the ball and
losing it or just playing back inside or back to Beradi or Taylor. Eventually
one of the defenders will smash it forward to Woods who invariably doesn't even
jump for the ball or the ball is placed into touch. It's clueless football ,
played by clueless footballers, directed by what appears to be a clueless
manager. I was sat in the West Stand yesterday just behind Rosler and he didn't
have a clue what was going on. Head in hands, looking down at the pitch. He got
plenty advice from me (a few pints in the Adelphi turned me into Don Revie).
I don't think we have any decent central midfielders at the club. Someone in
this league that can put the foot on the ball and make things happen. I think
Cook is a good prospect playing with experience around him. Currently he's
trying to do it all on his own and is just failing. Both Murphy and Mowatt were
awful yesterday. Mowatt was floundering around in his plimsolls, always a yard
off the pace, trying his best to get into the game but ultimately failing. It's
time to get rid I'm afraid. A nice left foot yes but he's not got what it
takes. As for Luke Murphy, is there anyone apart from the Leeds Utd management
that rate this guy. At best he is a pedestrian , Third division player with a
shit haircut and a dodgy moustache. He strolled around yesterday as if he was
Zidane but actually contributed nothing to the game. Absolutely nothing. He's a
waste of space.
And what about our front line ? Dallas is trying but the system is supporting
him and he is expected to beat 3 men every time to contribute. He had our best
chance and should have scored but at least he got into a goal scoring position.
Woods was toothless. Ok, his fans will say he got no service. Agreed, but he
really doesn't give himself a half chance if he doesn't jump for headers and
put himself about a bit more. A few decent goals cloud the judgement but can I
be first to say I think we've bought a donkey. Lee Chapman was a donkey but a
donkey that got into good positions and put himself on the line. I don't see
that in Woods and actually for a big lad I think he's a bit of a girl. He's got
no pace and little skill. His half chance in the first half was a disgrace.
Very disappointing.
Will Buckley - the lad was obviously ill ? How else could you describe a
performance like that ? I could have played a half and contributed at least as
much i.e. nothing, I would hope that I could actually do more. Maybe a forward
pass. I heard he's a confidence player. If that's the case we should send him
back now because he's not going to get that here. Rosler"Will, get the ball,
and beat 3 men and put it in the net, Easy".
The defence is shell shocked and looks very brittle. Brum for me were another
very average team but the one thing they had in Gray was someone with a bit of
pace, that wasn't being constrained by his manager's system to play on the
touchline, which enabled him to wander around and cause us problems. We just
couldn't keep with him. We should buy him but he would probably look shit in
our rigid , German 4-3-3.
I thought all 3 subs made a slight difference especially the wizard who showed
he does have something to offer even it was against tired Brum defenders. I
would like to see him playing in a freer role similar to Gray.
Byram immediately showed he is a yard quicker on the ground and a second
quicker in his head when it comes to making decision. I would like to see him
playing in Luke Murphy's role (whatever that is).
Overall, I'd like to see Rosler drop his obsession with wingers and actually
get some players with pace and passing ability centrally.
Off the pitch is was very low key. I don't think I heard the Kop once and the
happy , clappy South Standers were struggling to keep the momentum going with
nothing happening on the pitch. I arrive in Leeds at lunchtime and you'd really
have to look to realise that there was a game going on? Prince of Wales closed
and other pubs just sparsely populated. When I think back to the semi final
against them and also the FA Cup match where the atmosphere in Leeds was
electric. It's completely dead now.
Rosler needs a rethink but I don't think he has the time.
Scores:
Sylvestri - 5. Don't think he had much chance with the goals.
Beradi - 5. He was getting abuse from the folk need me but I actually thought
he battled hard.
Taylor - 3. His defending for the first goal was schoolboy. I don't think

Re: [LU] Brum

2015-01-18 Thread nat...@sky.com
The very last line from Nicks report sums up the whole situation perfectly
thing is we don’t have any settled idea of how we want to play or who is best
suited to carry out that plan for us2.

And therein lies the problem. We change the formation and the personnel but
there does not appear to be any real 'plan' - we do not know what we are, a
passing team, an up and at them team, a hoofball side, a try and keep it tight
team or we will score more than them team etc
Yes we have now had 3 fairly solid performances on the bounce (inc Sunderland)
but only have 2 draws and a defeat to show for it. One plus is that we have not
conceded from open play or even a set piece for 2 games - both goals against us
have been (dodgy?) penalties and we have now scored ourselves from open play,
so some positives there
Somehow though we have to get 3 points on Tuesday - various things are against
us -1. They are top of the League 2. We beat them at their place in a game we
should not have won so they will want revenge. 3 We are awful on Tuesday nights
4.The crowd will be v small (not helped by the OS still showing it as 'tbc' in
the fixture list as of Friday)
We do have one thing in our favour though 1. WE ARE LEEDS !
Come on lads - do it for Redders

 Subject: [LU] Brum

WE WUZ ROBBED

It is undoubtedly a better feeling to come out of a 1-1 having come from behind
near the end than the other way round but despite the “feel good” ending, this
a pretty unsatisfactory result; two poor teams not making much of a show of
football – there was a reasonable amount of incident, but that doesn’t mean
that either team was any good.

The things to feel good about include the fact that we scored from open play
for the first time since Ipswich; that we didn’t buckle after going one down
and fought our way back into the game and that we could and should have had the
winner after all that pressure in the last 10 minutes. It is a good thing that
we made a decent few chances, but a bad thing that again (like Wigan) we
couldn’t close the deal.

After a steady start they got a penalty 5 or 6 minutes in – I’ve only seen the
incident “live” but it seemed like a clean tackle to me, nor was there much
appealing from the B’ham players. Still, the ref gave it and we were one down.
For the next twenty minutes B’ham’s midfield strolled around pinging the ball
like fun between themselves – no Leeds player was at the races at this time,
with the possible exception of Silvestri – and every now and then they’d bang
off a pretty decent shot from outside the box which our keeper did well to
save. They obviously practice shooting from distance – why don’t we?

During the opening spell our best chance fell to Morrison – 10 yards out,
having chested a crossed ball down really well to his feet, he let fly a left
foot shot that swung high and glorious into the south stand. Antenucci carved a
similar opening, dropped his shoulder and went round his man almost to the
by-line, he hit the target and forced a save, but he was never likely to score
from there. Cooper (?) had a header that flew just wide, but he should have hit
the target.

The thing was that all of this happened more or less by chance – the weather
was poor and the ground heavy and wet – but neither team looked comfortable and
there were loads of aimlessly hoofed balls down the wings or just punted over
the other sides defence.

At half time, struggling to think what to say, someone in our group said “well
OK, who do we think had a shit first half?” and without missing a beat, the
others in the group all said “Morrison!” simultaneously. He did get better in
the second, where we seem to have decided that the thing to do with him is
plant crosses beyond the back post for him to win and nod back across goal – he
did this to pretty good effect – although no one really read the knock downs so
it came to nothing. He flicked one header onto the inside of the post in the
second half, the rebound eluding everyone, including the in-rushing Byram and
the thing bobbled away.

The game became more and more us attacking and them defending – although on a
break away they did hit the post in a similar way to Morrison’s earlier effort.
We had two pretty decent penalty shouts ruled out until eventually Murphy drove
home a poorly cleared cross from about 15 yards. It was on the half volley and
there was a crowd ahead of him, he did well to keep it down and pick the gap.
We also had a weird bouncing “goal” disallowed, the ball sailed over Doukara
and their keeper after bouncing on the 6 yard line, but there had been an
infringement in the build up apparently.

One thing I really don’t get is the crowd cheering for Antenucci being subbed
off and Sharp being brought on – Sharp offered nothing different. Ah well, folk

I was impressed by him, but I would have substituted him after 75 mins, he
was dead on his feet. I don't know what any of us expected this season,
but I think the word Transitional may have been invented JUST for us right
now. I think everything is looking OK actually, not mindlessly optimistic
but not down in the dumps either. We're starting to build a younger squad,
not choc full of Journeymen, with a good manager who knows this League and
has launched a promotion push mid season (Succesfully) before. The key is,
will there be any money by January? If not, get used to it, it's a slow
work in progress. If there is, we could have an entertaining second half
of the season ahead of us. Now, being an eternal optimist, if thre is
LOADS of money all set to be invested a succesful promotion push could be
brilliant, otherwise we'd be next years Crystal Palace.

StigOfTheLurkingDump

I think Mowatt is a great little player but he made one or two mistakes (
1 nearly cost us a goal) and I think he has a lot to learn ... Not
surprising considering he's only played a few games. Him and Byram are
really giving me hope and I can't wait to see their next match.

Anyway, looking forward to it.

has launched a promotion push mid season (Succesfully) before. The key is,
will there be any money by January?

6 for Murphy? And 7 for Mowatt? My God, you're the Craig Revel-Horwood of this
list when it comes to scoring Rich. Agree that Brum were hopeless, particularly
their central defence/goalie, but this was an excellent display. I thought
Mowatt was outstanding. Even Smith, who I thought looked a right dollop in
earlier games, played extremely well.

If they can reproduce this sort of effectiveness more consistently, then we
will go up the table!

As for the TV thing, I saw enough to ask my lad if he wanted to go and he said
yes, so we'll be Elland Rd bound very soon indeed. Do any listers meet up

heading in the same direction as their near neighbours Wolves.

So any optimism over this performance has to consider the poor quality of the
opposition. Having said that there was some real positives for me today with
the formation and our play.

I liked the fact we played with 2 up front. Matt Smith provided a real focus
for our attacks and he enabled Macca more space and opportunity.

I loved the way Byram was playing in midfield. I never had him as a right back
, he's too good to be a right back. Some of the interplay between him and
Mowatt in the second half was simple but effective. Simple one twos. Great to
see and they seemed to have an awareness of each other.

I thought we were direct but for once our long balls seem to have purpose and
usually had a white shirt running on to them.

Scores:

Kenny - 8. Didn't do a lot wrong and made a few decent saves for the clean
sheet.

Pearce - 8. Committed performance. Missed an easy header first half but we've
come to expect that.

Wooten - 8. Seemed to do ok.

Lees - 8. Some good defending.

Warnock - 8. I think he's getting stronger. He gets stuck in that's for sure.

Byram - 8. I thought he was a real threat throughout. Only going to get better.
I think a large bid is coming in for him soon. He's got real quality.

Mowatt - 7. Nearly gifted them a goal. I think he's a tidy player and his cross
for Smith's goal was fantastic.

Austin - 9. That's the best he's played. This was a captain's performance and
if he carries on like this he will change my mind because he was inspirational
today.

Murphy - 6. With Mowatt's introduction he has been relieved of playing left
side of midfield so today he was central and saw more of the ball. He showed
composure and got around the field well. He still was a bit of a side show and
didn't really do anything major in the game but I think he showed today that it
may be too early to write him off.

Smith - 9. I like Smith. He's a big lump, but he has good control and has good
awareness of those around him. He scored 2 and had one disallowed which he
smacked into the roof of the net with his left foot.

Macca - 8. Looked very lively today. I find him frustrating at times and today
he really should have a hat trick.

Subs:

Brown - 10 class as always.

Credit to BMD, he's had a real think about the formation and he's come up with
something that really worked today. Will it work against Town next week ? Who
knows but this was a good performance and I think with the youth our enthusiasm
levels were high. Feeling optimistic. It's amazing what 1 result can do. I was
thinking BMD might be out if his depth 24 hours ago. Maybe I'll think that
again when we get thumped by Town ?

Also, if you watched in out the telly you're a c£t !

As for Murphy, I liked his energy and and I think he looked much more
comfortable on the ball. Playing on the left side of midfield Ina different
system has actually meant he has been playing as a left winger which he is
totally unsuited to. So I think I've been far too quick to write him off
however I would say I can't think of anything he did which turned the game or
created a goal. He was pedestrian but it was by far his best performance I've
seen which tells you how poor he has been since his arrival at the club.
Hopefully he will kick on from this.

As for my comment about watching in telly - that was what the Kop sang. I
wouldn't blame anyone for not paying good brass to watch Leeds lately. I
sometimes think I'm slightly mad.

Fair points Nigel. I thought Bates was being kept on to re-assure GFH that
there were no skeletons in the closet and if any should pop out in the
short-term then Beast will still be around. That in itself makes you wonder how
robust the whole thing has been, but I wouldn't blame anyone for not trusting

As for getting rid of Bates for good - that's a pipe dream, so get over it. It
seems clear that having him around was a condition of the sale, so we just have
to hope that they push him out of the day to day running of the club (and all

GFH do have the faint whiff of the Krasner mob about them.
Desperate to own a football team but without really having the financial muscle
to do it properly - hence they end up with Bates hanging around - and in the
meantime the club drifts along losing more and more supporters on the way.

The football has been largely turgid this season. Given 90% of the crowd were
in the Kop, Captains Lounge or NE corner on Saturday - that meant most of us
were just looking at banks of empty seats.

We had about 3 chances, Becchio scored one, missed a sitter when clean through
and there was a header the keeper saved - and that was it. Brum were dreadful -
their keeper kicked it straight out of play at least 4 times - but if Redmond
could shoot straight as well as  doing stepovers, they'd have won.

We were bad but far from the worse i've seen us this season.

The most depressing thing is we bring an ageing, cheating, primadonna signed on
a free from Doncaster - and he's easily our best player for the simple fact
that he can control the ball and cross it into the box. With the possible
exception of Byram, there is no other excitement in the team.

Nothing much to add to Dave's report - I just think that there are 2 figures
that sum up yesterday (and the current LUFC malaise)...the crowd 11, 447 (and to
think I knew about 15 of them by name)...and the number of passes made to our
goalkeeper yesterday...I mean seriously, he must have been in receipt of way
more than any other Leeds player. V negative.

Bad day at the office for all concerned, but in particular Hall and White had
about as anonymous a 45 minutes as it is possible to have...dreadful...McCormack
not much ahead of them...

well, he has fleeced true supporters prepared to pay over the odds to watch

A lot of fans have fallen out of love with the club and it really saddens
me. Us mugs with Season Tickets will be approached again shortly to stump
up more over the top prices to renew. I am seriously considering walking

Couldn't agree more Phill. I think this is the worst football I've ever
seen us play.

I'm willing to see what GFH say, or do, over the next few weeks, but
other than banal tweets their silence is deafening.

They need to get shut of Bates for good, lower prices and show some fucking

There's a surprising amount of anti-new-owners stuff coming out - I'm never one

about a lack of investment when they're all of 3 working days into the transfer
window. We all know that the majority of deals (somewhat unfathomably) go
through in the last few days, not the first few.

And in any case, they've made it clear that they're not sugar daddies with a
limitless pot o' gold, so I would expect that the best we can hope for is some
sensible squad bolstering by the end of the month.

As for getting rid of Bates for good - that's a pipe dream, so get over it. It
seems clear that having him around was a condition of the sale, so we just have
to hope that they push him out of the day to day running of the club (and all

GFH said before they took over that Bates would not be involved after they
bought us so what changed? They must know how the fans feel about him so we can
only assume Bates has something up his sleeve.

His continued involvement will always place a divide between the fans and the
club.

I wonder who owns ER

David Nattan nat...@sky.com wrote:

I am not against GFH , my concerns are that it took so long to complete the

We do not know if Bates staying on was part of the deal - they have neither
said it nor denied it. Also the same applies to his continuing to write his
vitriol in the programme and his getting a Presidency at the end of the
year. IF it is their choice then they have not judged the mood of fans
properly., if it was foisted on them , then let us know - if it is subject
to the confidentiality stuff then let us read it between the lines.

The price for yesterdays game - again may be down to Bates, not them- has
not won them any fans.
We have not yet managed to sign even the loan players let alone anyone new,
albeit it is only 6 days in.
I think if they had said and done things better they would have the fans
100% behind them and have given the whole place a lift - instead they are
being viewed with at best, ambivalence , and at worst suspicion by a large
number of match going fans

his continuing to write his vitriol in the programme

I thought Bates was no longer in the program? - At least, I saw loads of
comments on Twitter to that effect. Is he back?

if it was foisted on them (Bates staying around), then let us know

I've no idea. But surely supposition is enough to be at least 90% sure that
Bates' continued presence (in whatever aspect) must be down to a clause in
the agreement. I mean, what other possible reason could they want for still
having him around?

The price for yesterdays game - again may be down to Bates, not them- has
not won them any fans.

I'm sure that in the past there have been the same issues with FA Cup games,
and the pricing is down to a combination of stupid FA restrictions and the
fact that they can only be reduced with the consent of the visitors (since
they get a cut). Is that not the case? So Brum may to blame in this
case...

I still think that the new boys need to be given a chance to prove something
before we start calling for their heads. Though I do concede that comments
(which I hadn't read) to the effect that January won't prove anything
won't help - I'll be ready to hang 'em from a lamp post at the end of the
month if nothing useful is done...

We decided that they could (if it was down to them and not Bates) subject

£5 for adults. It would led (hopefully) to a full house and they could have
made money on merchandise. It would have reminded fans what they are

reduced prices do not come back at full price (that is why I am generally
against these 'special offers') but think what it would have done to lift
the general atmosphere around Leeds United, and with it being a cup game,
it would not have put anyone's nose out of joint. What a message it would

Surely you lot are being a bit harsh about the desperate times if you're
basing that assessment on the past two games? The view from my armchair is that
the club had what sounds like an awful virus sweep through Thorpe Arch, with a
significant number of senior players and even the manager and his assistant
stricken, and yet somehow eked out three points against Bolton and managed to
remain in the cup today, despite having no manager in the dugout and players
like Austin being sent home from Elland Road because they were too sick. In the
unlikely event we get promoted (or even make it to the play-offs) this season,
that win against Bolton will go down in the history books as a key, key result.
Three points when - with several players on the field under the weather -
Warnock would have had all the excuses he needed if we'd dropped points. To me
the players seem to be showing extraordinary courage and resilience given what
is clearly a devastating health situation in the dressing room.

Cheers!

To be honest I think I've just had enough with a lot of aspects around the
current game. I don't want to be a Chelsea or a Man City I just want an honest
club with a good, fair ticketing policy with a team who are committed to the
club and who have a decent amount of ability - pipe dreams maybe but even when
we were shit I loved the players who loved Leeds and had ability e.g. Sheridan

On the positive side, although it seems like a desperate situation I don't
think it would take much to inject some enthusiasm by convincing us all that
Bates now has no control and bringing in 1 or 2 players who really fancy the
promotion challenge and have real ability. I think there's one think you can
say about this current squad - lack of quality in almost every position.

Also, if the new owners can convince us that that they aren't against the fan
base - and by this I mean the hardcore support who have been there thick and
thin - the ones who Bates thinks are worthless and 'animals' and has spent
most of his efforts trying to alienate.

e decided that they could (if it was down to them and not Bates) subject
o FA regulations, have made it dirt cheap today - free or £1 for kids and
5 for adults. It would led (hopefully) to a full house and they could have
ade money on merchandise. It would have reminded fans what they are
issing and got them an awful lot of goodwill. OK fans who turn up at
educed prices do not come back at full price (that is why I am generally
gainst these 'special offers') but think what it would have done to lift
he general atmosphere around Leeds United, and with it being a cup game,
t would not have put anyone's nose out of joint. What a message it would
ave sent out - Bates has gone, we are here and we care and appreciate the
 ans (even if they don't)
