LL:DDN: Building a new anti-war coalition -meeting this Mon
apologies for any cross postings Dear all, please find below a call to build a new anti-war coalition in Sydney after conservative and anti-democraticforces succeeded in pushing through theirsplit of the Sydney Walk Against War Coalition. The anti-democratic forces originallyhad planned totake a motion to athe Walk Against War Coalition meeting without previously notifying all the groups affliated to the Walk Against War that this motion was being put forward (as a result the majority of affliates had no idea that there was an attempt to close down the coalition which had successfully involved hundreds of people in building the biggest anti-war demo in Australia's history). The anti-democratic forces, however, were forced onto the back foot and to give notice of the motion to all affliates when co-convenor Nick Everett found out about the plan to close down the coalitionand madeit public. The conservatives succeeded in splitting the coalition, despite the fact that the majority of the local anti-war groups in Sydney opposed the split (instead supportinga unity call put forward by Everett). Also is included is an account of the meeting at which the split happened by one of the delegates,Pip Hinman from Action in Solidarity with Asia and the Pacific, who argued against the split. in solidarity, Kim B -- -- Leftlink - Australia's Broad Left Mailing List mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archived at http://www.cat.org.au/lists/leftlink/ Sponsored by Melbourne's New International Bookshop Sub: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsub: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
