Hi Gene

Can you just tell me one thing, did you buy the Model 1200 from Legacy
direct or from a third party?

Roger

I have read the replys from members that responded to Legacy's lack of
interest in supporting older ornamental-mills. I bought a 1200 about a year
ago. To

my amazement, Legacy would not even talk about there mill, or offer any
advice on parts, manuals etc. After several call to there plant, I was told
they did not

offer any support, no parts, and thanks for calling. I have just purchased
a new CNC machine and not one from Legacy. I will not recommend anybody to
Legacy.

Thanks

Hello All,

I'm really looking forward to the live chat tommorow. I'm thinking with a
bunch of new guys trying to figure out the chat technology the agenda might
be a little ambitious. I would also hope to see a longer time spent on the
Evo.

Copied from the original message - The agenda for the 1 hour is:

- 10 min on the Evolution machine.
- 10 min. QA
- 10 min on CNC
- 10 Min QA
- 10 min on older equipment
- 10 min QA

I'm thankful to John at Legacy for even giving us this opportunity to

Re: Support

2013-02-05 Thread curt george
Hello Roger.
If you don't mind me asking, I don't understand the question, Why would second
hand (or third party) matter?
Are you suggesting that Legacy will not deal with second hand owners of there
equipment? That would be foolish, in an business aspect, New cliental is always
hard to come by, If a person wants to buy from you, sell them what ever that
want, its just that simple.an older machine like a second hand car, will always
need parts and repairs to keep them running, The after market normally pays off
much better than the New products do right off the assembly line.
Perhaps this would be a better question for the tel-a-conference this evening?
But what is your (the company's) official statement on this topic?

I have read the replys from members that responded to Legacy's lack of
interest in supporting older ornamental-mills. I bought a 1200 about a year
ago. To

my amazement, Legacy would not even talk about there mill, or offer any
advice on parts, manuals etc. After several call to there plant, I was told
they did not

offer any support, no parts, and thanks for calling. I have just purchased a
new CNC machine and not one from Legacy. I will not recommend anybody to
Legacy.

  Thanks

Hello All,

I'm really looking forward to the live chat tommorow. I'm thinking with a
bunch of new guys trying to figure out the chat technology the agenda might
be a little ambitious. I would also hope to see a longer time spent on the
Evo.

Copied from the original message - The agenda for the 1 hour is:

- 10 min on the Evolution machine.
- 10 min. QA
- 10 min on CNC
- 10 Min QA
- 10 min on older equipment
- 10 min QA

I'm thankful to John at Legacy for even giving us this opportunity to
communicate as a group. I'm well aware of the passionate history many of us
have in this group. I hope we all keep this civil.

After asking this does anyone have one they would like to sell me I know it's

Re: Who all was there?

2013-02-05 Thread Tim Krause
It's an Evo that they will be sending me. Maybe if it gets here fast enough
I'll be the first one to show a video of the chips flying :-).

I thought the conversation was good. For those have problems buying parts from
Legacy, take the advice given and speak with Andy directly or John. As long as
they know you own a machine they will fill the order according to John. After
trying this and it fails, speak with me offlist and I will do what I can do to
sort the issue out. Keep in mind, I'm not an employee of Legacy but I have
phone numbers and a friendly ear on the other end.

As far as this group being negative, I think we as a group have turned that
attitude around. Don't you? I think I'm pretty clear that I don't want to
discuss Legacy politics and that is a private issue between Legacy and
yourself. I think self moderation in this area has been great.

What I still would like to see is more question and projects being posted from
our member. I've had 30+ new members this year that all said they wanted to
learn about their machines, but they have never posted a single message. How
can you learn if questions are not asked? Maybe it's a more personal question,
what do I need to do to make this group better?

I was there from the beginning but missed the first 15 minutes as I was not
receiving the audio.

I appreciated hearing:

a) that EVO parts were identical to the older mill parts that we use.

b) Legacy Woodworking's perspective on why they went into CNC. Makes me
remember when most of the world grew their own food, and then automation
came along. Or how there were so many mills making cloth and then
automation came along.Actually I am not that old, but that is what I
read in those history books.

c) Am I correct in remembering that there were 10,000 manual ornamental
mills sold? Or was it a different number mentioned?

 Tim,
You are one very lucky chap! (Though well deserved)
I hope you are not going to get too blown away by CNC technology, because we
will still need you so sort out the groups problems!

Re: Who all was there?

2013-02-05 Thread John Hennen
I hope that everyone enjoyed the session tonight.

With the shows not being anywhere on the west coast we have had ALOT of
people ask what we are demonstrating. Because of that Tracy and Andy have
decided to do a set of videos based on the classes that we are teaching
there. a kind of a virtual show. There are 11 classes that are taught
every week. Tracy is working on the first day of classes or 4 videos.

In a Q A session there is not really any live action and so there was
none. Even in the CNC classes there is no live machining being done as
that would blow off all of our ears. That is saved for the videos
where Tracy can manipulate the noise volume.

On the screen during the session tonight was just a small sampling of the
project pictures that have been sent into us. Tim has asked for the
pictures and so I will see about getting them to him. We have almost a
terabyte of pictures i will see about getting him some of them.

AS for future sessions we will need to setup some times. In these classes
I would like to have one of *you* as a *guest instructor* and have you show
off a new project and take the time to talk about the techniques that you
used to make the project. we can then discuss what would have made it
easier and what accessories you used to make the project. This way we can
all learn from each other and Legacy also will know what new accessories
would helpful and which are being used.

Would a session like that be worth while? I know that a once a month Q A
would be a short and semi-boring session in my opinion. so something more
fun and engaging would be more exciting and maybe even get more people to
attend.

John

 John,
Thanks for helping Stan bring this session to fruition - we appreciate
 your help.
As for Tracy being busy filming - what was he filming? All I saw on my
screen was a slide show of things that presumably had been made with Legacy
machines; I never saw any live action. Did I fail to set myself up
 properly?
I was able to send in questions comments via text, but saw only ya'll's
 desktop (computer screen).
I am sure I speak for many when I say that I look forward to our future
 sessions.

Re: Who all was there?

2013-02-05 Thread Harvey Matyas
I heard most of the talk, I left from 4:30 to 4:45 or so

c) Am I correct in remembering that there were 10,000 manual ornamental
mills sold? I thought that he said 10,000 units.

During the talk he encouraged the group to share videos and projects with
each other. He also mentioned videos on their site.

I don't know about other users, but there seems to be videos that I can
only find by using Google. Some are from Legacy others from other people.
I don't know if anyone has a document that would contain projects and video
that had hypo links that someone could click on and be taken to that site.
If there is an interest, I could try putting something like that together.

It also would be interesting to see how users modified their LOM. I have
seen (pictures) of modifications and some on units that were for sale. It
maybe beneficial to see either drawing and/or pictures of modified units.
This in turn may bring out other ideas which could then be shared.

I wish I had more to share.

Harvey

I have a question I would like to replace my 900 mills headstock with a
newer ball baring model

Do I need to replace both head and tail stock or will a newer ball baring
headstock line up on centre height ok with my older tail stock.

After asking this does anyone have one they would like to sell me I know
it's a long shot and a mill is no good without one but I just thought I
would ask
