It's very difficult to tell. There is a label on the headstock that shows what
model it is. I can't see the writing, but since the check is in the left side
of the options, it is either a model 500 or 600. I have a feeling you're going
to ask me how to tell the difference between a model 500 and 600, and I can
only say read the fine label!

RE: Two Legacy Machines for $700 in Modesto, California

2015-01-13 Thread Russ Veinot
So, how many out there own multiple machines? I own 2 model 1200 machines.
Both with PC routers. Bought one new in 2003 (or so) and the other used 2
years ago (for a song and dance) with a lot of the extras.

Bill,
Good one - my fault. When I went to the History link, I scrolled down until
I got to the CNC machine and Robin. Since it was the history page
(displaying in chronological order) , I figured I had gone far enough - since I
knew the HTC was not a new member of the LOM family; that it preceded the
CNCs. So I scrolled back up and found the 600EXL - which has some similarities
- and thought that it was the model being referenced.
My apologies - I failed to scroll down past the newest mills - into the
specialized section.
Still waiting for someone who owns one to enlighten us - and show us some items
produced on it..

Bill,
Thanks. I went to that page earlier - before posting the question.
The model on CraigsList (CL) is NOT on the History page.

Look closely at the CL unit - the tailstock is not there. There is a fixed
red strut at both ends.
At the head(?) end are two crank handles - one to drive the router carriage
and the other to rotate the integral/built-in turntable.

That machine appears to be exactly what Begat described with his name for
it - a Horizontal Turning center. (Or perhaps a Medallion Maker?)

Waiting for The Group's Brain Trust/Tribal Knowledge to jump in and enlighten
us.

(How did you come by this identification?)
Do you have any info/specs on it? Like length and diameter capacities?
What did it come with? Like gears ratios, reversing gear, etc.
Do any Group members own one? Perhaps you can enlighten us. A copy of the

RE: double sided tape

2015-01-13 Thread Bill Bulkeley
I did think it was for a more permanent fixing but if its that strong then I
was thinking only use small amounts

I do have to attach my kitchen slab bench tops to the cabinets underneath when
I do my kitchen. Instead of the more conventional way of attachment to allow
for timber movement this 3M VHB might be a good and quick alternative..

But getting back to legacy the issue people seem to have with using double
sided tape is that it might not hold

That is why I was thinking this stuff might work quite well .removing it I
believe might be the only trouble

But perhaps small squares of it instead of long strips like other tape might be
the answer what do you all think

3M VHB is made for permanent mountings. Really permanent. One company uses it
to attach the frames that hold solar panels on the roofs of motorhomes. No
other attachments (e.g., screws).

I’ve used it for trim on my motorhome. It’s fairly expensive but works very
well.

I think it would destroy either the substrate or the part in a temporary

Re: Making Rosettes

2015-01-13 Thread Dexter Bland
You are right Curt, it is a tight fit to move the the stop to the next
position and another wheel would give you more room. That would open the
possibilites of many more combinations with using different size wheels. I
had made another one of these in the past, but it didn't have the number
combo that I needed. I wanted 16 and had made an index wheel with 40
positions. That would not give me the number of positions or spokes I was
looking for. As it is, I ended up with 18 instead, which was close enough.
There have been several new guys asking questoins lately, so I decided to
show them how to make a rotary table with what they already have since the
Legacy version would be hard to come by. I give hints on the easy stuff,
you guys cover the much more complicated stuff.

motor

2015-01-13 Thread Bill Bulkeley

Mike I have lost your email address again so I’m contacting you here through
the group.

I just would like to say to you that my legacy would look really good this new
year with a motor attached to it.

double sided tape

2015-01-13 Thread Bill Bulkeley
Anybody ever used 3M VHB tape for holding work on the mill I found it on the
net while surfing

And I was wondering how it would go to hold work for milling on the legacy like
the rotary table or on a mdf table

Any comments about this product
