Re: Play time in the shop

2016-02-27 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Thanks Bill
I ended up going to work right after I signed off. I guess its Murphy's law?
But as I said earlier its a pretty good day to play.

The idea just hit me why not just wedge a scale between the extruded alum. the
pointer is just part of an old band-saw blade. I cut it off and ground it down,
put to holes in it and screwed it to my Y axis jam nut. it couldn't be any
easier to make.

Now about the wave attachment I just cant figure out why no one else in
this group likes it? Its so easy to make, and even easier to use.
People are requesting me to make the waves on my canes and walking sticks .
I like them at least. If anyone want to talk shop on this topic. I'm open to
it. There is nothing to hide, here.
Thanks again for the kind reply bill.
talk to you and all, latter.

Again nice work I like the cross slide rule idea you can use whatever ruler you
have in your shop metric or imperial long or short if you only need a short
distance . why has none of the new members asked how you did that lovely wave
pattern a attachment easily made for our mills.

Hello everyone

Today I had one side job to do early this morning, and after IT was done, I got
to play around a lot in my shop.

I made another jig for me Legacy, a New Y axis indicator. (which I am very
happy with.)

The fireman Axe head was just something I had stored away sometime ago, So I
figured I would make a new handle for it. I use Hickory for the handle. I had
some burn mark from the router bit, so I just added some more with my torch, as
an added detail. (again I like the results.)

And lastly a walking stick for a friend. Its made out of Brazilian Cherry . I
used red spray paint to highlight the waves.( I again like the look.) as I said
its just a PLAY DAY! and I am enjoying my self. it's called. Saw Dust Therapy
and it dose wonders for you attitude. You all should try it your self's. and
post your results here. ;-)

Have a Great day everyone.

RE: New Steady Rest for my Legacy

2016-02-27 Thread Bill Bulkeley
I love it, use what you already have on hand the car jack is a very clever
height adjustment

I made a steady for my wood lathe once out of roller blade wheels my kids grew
out of

But the wheels had lights in them so for a while till the batteries went flat I
had a pretty light show

when I used them :-). These days of the ever falling economy we all might be
making rather than buying our add-ons and extras

great job curt.

Subject: New Steady Rest for my Legacy

Hello everyone.

Just a new toy for my Legacy,

Yes I know it looks like something farmers mechanic would have made. but I
works well for my needs. and only took me an hour to make. (Last night after
work.in our shop.)

I bought a set of roller-blades at the salvation army store for $4.00 the car
jack was free (more or less, It was from an old car that I got rid of years
ago.)

all that I needed to do was make the brackets to hold the wheels and wield the
jack to a steel plate for a better base for my steady rest.

Since my Legacy is a bench top model I decided to make this steady rest free
from the machine its self, and sits on the work bench and can be locked down on
to the bench,(if need be?)

So far it has worked out Great. the screw adjustment and tilting head stock
really works well for what I needed it to do.

I was able to finish a walking stick that I was making for a friend of mine.
the vibrations I was getting even with my old steady rest in use, almost caused
me to

rune this project earlier this week. ( I will post pictures of the finished
project latter.)

(Elton Johns song Im still "SANDING"Will the my song for the day.) ;-p

I have the weekend off from work. (Maybe? Im still on call.) But My plans are
to play and clean the shop today. Wish me luck. ;-)

Talk to you all latter.

Re: All I want For Christmas

2016-02-27 Thread Dexter Bland
I use a shaper to make the doors (an old delta machine). Cutting that much
material at once is really hard on a router and if you pause during the cut
it will burn the wood. Shapers cutters turn much slower and rarely ever
leave burn marks. The frame pieces are Roman Ogee and the standard cope for
the raised panel cut.
