I believe the Rose engine lathe gets the name because of the rose patterns it 
produces in the work usually metal but also wood and now I see clay. 

I’m not a 100 percent sure but I think that’s how it got the name please

I wonder how aware the SOT group is aware of this?  Most of their information 
is regarding wood and ivory as material for turning.  Great find for sure.
