Bill,
Use a copy of the profile(any profile at all) and enlarge it until it is
the size of actual profile, glue it to cardboard, cut it out and you’ll have a
template to use... Joe

Copyright protection is for a limited term. For works created after January 1,

Re: Templates

2020-05-26 Thread Bawdsey64
Hi Denson
If my memory serves me right here is the reason Legacy stopped making the
templates.
Legacy outsourced the job of making the templates and overtime the quality
dropped off.  There were burn marks and indentations around the various
template cut outs which meant that the user got an imperfect template profile.
So what you might say, others would possibly take the view that they had paid
$X and expected near perfection.  The company that Legacy outsourced to tried
to fix the problem with a new laser but apparently that had too much power and
so the templates fell off the Legacy price list.  The reason I know I was their
agent for the UK and Europe.

Now please bear in mind we are going back to around 2007 and laser technology,
user knowledge and use has changed significantly.  I spoke to a friend today
who has an Epilog Laser, top of the line model, and he said  that today's
lasers are far superior and easier to control, they even tell you the settings
for the different material. .

Why is $90.00 expensive when you get what you want and that you can get
the job done?  Life is too short, you may be dead by the time you find a
cheaper supplier.  Try lending him your set that is a zero cost solution but
you may have to drive or mail them.

Cheers

i:e 2.5 inches by 3inches,Just have to go steady. Of course it does help if
it close to the dia. that you require, However if you do want to make it
octagonal just lock the spindle a few times and run the router along it.

A Question of Technique

2020-05-26 Thread The Viking

Hello all,

I’ve got a question of technique; hopefully not too basic.

My daughter asked me to make her a couple small patio tables, and I started
with the legs. I used my jointer to get two edges of white oak stock flat
and square; then moved on to the table saw to mill the other two edges to
get blanks 1 ¾ x 1 ¾ x 20. I mounted the Russ V inspired milling table on
my LOM 900 to cut out the mortises with a 3/8 straight router bit. Then I
removed the milling table, installed index hubs on the blanks and mounted
them on the Legacy for spindle work to make them round with a slight taper.
Add three coves near the top and a couple near the bottom and I’ve got nice
looking table legs.

As I was doing all this, the question crossed my mind: could I have done
all this on the LOM? From squaring to mortises to tapering and rounding all
while on the Legacy in the spindle turning set-up?

I asked Curt this question. He told me that he does his mortises on the
Legacy in the spindle mode, but he’s found that it’s necessary to lock the
tail stock end as well as the head stock. He suggested that I post the
question to the group to see what others do.

So, may I ask for the forum’s wisdom. What are the steps you take to make
your round table legs?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

You have to understand Legacy owners, some user the machine all the time, they

Legacy machines in the UK very few pop their head up above the barricade. I
sold over a hundred machines, including 30 plus REVOs. Now since retirement I

You have to face the fact you are not very good at playing "Hunt the Legacy",
the UK version of the game.

Never mind eh!
