Thats some nice looking material Bill.

Any idea how many board Feet you harvested there?

Are you slabbing it so it can dry faster? Here in the states an inch per year

air dry is the average, then with it wrapped in plastic wrap you slow that

process down, so when do you think you might be able to start machining some of
it?

Great looking material for sure. And yes Iron Wood cuts like it states like
Iron.

We have it here in Minnesota too, but have not seen an Iron wood Tree that
large here.

Nice finc.

If someone has DWG or DXF files I can convert them into just about any
format that is needed. I use AutoCAD just about every day. If anyone wants
to send me the file to convert, be glad to help.

Re: Weekend project

2023-03-15 Thread Tim Ziegler
Hey John,

Those can be used to make 4 pieces of moulding that the same time.
They are called Pilaster mounting Dogs.
Not sure if there is an archive that would have the information or not.
This link should open right to the description of it.

https://drive.google.com/a/legacywoodworking.com/file/d/1cPt4On2lR1eZwkxcBuQ7YseOQuJRdf5q/view?usp=drivesdk

but you attach 4 pieces to it and turn it just like you would a spindle and
when done you can have 4 exact same piece of moulding to but on a corner
application.
I'd send a pic but shut my phone down for the night.
Try this link its from the actually legacy site.

And yes Iron Wood cuts like it states like
Iron.

We have it here in Minnesota too, but have not seen an Iron wood Tree that
large here.

Nice finc.

That’s quite a tree. It looked like the saw was struggling.

There’s a U.S. Navy squared-rigged wooden warship, hundreds of years old,
moored in Boston Harbor. She is the USS Constitution but her nickname is “Old
Ironsides.” Cannonballs from our English friends bounced off her timber sides
and the sailors gave her that nickname.

Your wood would laugh at mere cannonballs.

I don’t know what I’m going to do yet curt but to be sure I will try and get as
much as I can out of it buy first off it’s a nice opportunity to get a couple

I might try and get a bit more if the rest of the tree doesn’t crack too much
before I can con my son into cutting more for me

A bit hard to work a chainsaw from a scooter myself lol

Happy Birthday Bill.

Nice Video.

How dose that wood split? You might reeve one or two of those to make some
smaller turning stock.

When I process my own wood, I always try to reeve the wood into smaller blanks
for me to turn. (I have some black walnut and hard maple in my rafters drying
now for appx. 1 yr/2yrs now.)

Your iron wood looks like it has some color... Nice stuff.I cant wait to
see how it turns.

Have a GREAT DAY...

Re: log cutting

2023-03-15 Thread Joseph Greenleaf
That’s quite a tree. It looked like the saw was struggling.
There’s a U.S. Navy squared-rigged wooden warship, hundreds of years old,
moored in Boston Harbor. She is the USS Constitution but her nickname is
“Old Ironsides.” Cannonballs from our English friends bounced off her
timber sides and the sailors gave her that nickname.
Your wood would laugh at mere cannonballs.

 Happy Birthday Bill.
Nice Video.
How dose that wood split? You might reeve one or two of those to make some
smaller turning stock. When I process my own wood, I always try to reeve the
wood into smaller blanks for me to turn. (I have some black walnut and hard
maple in my rafters drying now for appx. 1 yr/2yrs now.)   Your iron wood looks
like it has some color...  Nice stuff.    I cant wait to see how it turns.Have
a GREAT DAY...

Re: log cutting

2023-03-15 Thread Tim Ziegler
Thats some nice looking material Bill.
Any idea how many board Feet you harvested there?
Are you slabbing it so it can dry faster? Here in the states an inch per
year
air dry is the average, then with it wrapped in plastic wrap you slow that
process down, so when do you think you might be able to start machining
some of it?
Great looking material for sure. And yes Iron Wood cuts like it states like
Iron.
We have it here in Minnesota too, but have not seen an Iron wood Tree that
large here.
Nice finc.
