Re: Bone stuff

2023-11-26 Thread Ed Trevillian
Dan,
In my limited experience... both bone & antler smell the same as dust. They
both have a grain (similar to wood). Both are extremely hard and brittle.
Cutting it with a power driven cutter seems the same- very difficult on my
lathe, easy with a dremel or fordom tool to shape. Obviously the wall
thinkness of a dog bone (from a cow) is much heavier, hense hard to
penetrate with hot water or vinegar. I think heavier bone just requires
much longer soaking.
Let me know how your experiment comes out.

Re: square spirals

2024-07-27 Thread Ed Trevillian
Hi Tim,
Thanks for reaching back to me. I bought a 1500 (?) that the original owner
never unpacked. I retired 5 yrs ago, downsized our home & built a new shop
at new place. I am still in final phases of putting it together (1300 sf)
with all sorts of tools for metal, woodwork & granite. (I have no
experience as a machinist, as I believe you do. I have yet to unpack the
LOM. BUT, I expect to very soon. (I've been saying that for 2 yrs). I will
get there. I enjoy reading the posts by you and the few other active folks
here.
I admire the work of you & the others.
