Mill not square???

2016-01-26 Thread Ernesto Olguin
Hey guys I am noticing a slight bit of play when I true a peice of wood square.
It is very slight. About a mm or so. I can twist the stock with my hand/wrist
fairly easily. I am trying to mill profiles on a square leg. But my profiles
are coming out slightly off.

I think the play is right where the index gear sits against the spindle shift.
It seems the the rectangle on the index gear is a little worn. Is that
something normal that I should eventually have to replace? My mill is used.

It's driving me nuts. I have pictures but I need to figure out how to add from
my phone.

2015-12-29 Thread Ernesto Olguin
I want to know about people's self made rotary tables. Are there any out there?

Primary mods

I remember there being multiple dust collection mods. A suggestion to get an
extension for your router. Etc etc.

Primary mods

2015-12-07 Thread Ernesto Olguin
Hey guys I remember coming across a website that had initially suggested mods
and improvements for most LOMs. I can't seem to find it again! So I thought I
would ask the group.

Does this described website trigger any known websites to you?

What are your suggested initial mods/improvements?

I am working with an 800ex if that helps...

Thanks!

Curtis

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that I wouldn't be forced to send my bits out
to be re-sharpened regularly. The similarity with hand tool upkeep is
refreshing. I was feeling very out of water because I don't really use power
tool for woodworking. Besides the occasional band saw...

The more I work with and on our Legacy the more comfortable and excited I am
about the possibilities. I'll have some pictures and adventures to share soon.

Ernesto

Re: New Members and Moderation

2015-12-04 Thread Ernesto Olguin
Thanks for the welcome Mac & CAG. Today I finished mounting the router and
turned my first cylindrical piece. Also did some simple shape routing, to get a
feel for the set up. I look forward to implementing some of your great mods.
Expecially the dust management mods.
Our shop is loaded with most general woodworking machinery, table saw, lathe,
band saw, radial arm saw, and of course work benches.
Otto, my boss is a brilliant stone and glass sculptor. Which he had been doing
for the last 20+ years. He has been bit by the wood bug and is ready to explore
a new material. I am not an expert woodworker, yet, though I am Otto's main
source of information.
We are making simple, organic, sculptured furniture pieces. Nothing too
complex.
First question for you guys: we are shaping, mainly locally sourced mesquite
wood. Mesquite is incredibly hard, approximately 4 times harder than maple or
oak! What type of bits should we get that will give us the best life span? Or
that can be sharpened? Any thoughts?

New Members and Moderation

2015-12-02 Thread Ernesto Olguin
Hello group

I am Ernesto. I am a woodworker in Tucson, AZ. I just started working with
another craftsman, helping him start a furniture line. He just got a used
Legacy 800EX Ornamental Mill. We are complete novices and just finished setting
it up and cleaning it. I am extremely excited for all the possibilities that it
provides us. I just need to learn how to use it...
I am equally excited to get help from all of you as well as potentially
contributing to the group.
