Oval picture frame

I have a lady who is making a 20”X40” oval cross stitch pattern and will need a
frame. She is unable to find one big enough and wondered if I could do it on
the legacy. Anyone have any ideas?

WOW I not only got great ideas on how to do the project but copies of the
Legacy magazines Maybe I should have asked how to make a twenty dollar

Ted's Game project

2020-01-19 Thread Patrick Salter
I have a son who collects and plays board games. I have a feeling if I show him
this I’ll have a full time job!
Nice work. The bottom of the pockets look there might be ridges from using a
cove bit to remove everything. Is that right? I had the same issue when making
cutting boards for Christmas. I ended up sanding them (a lot!) to smooth them.

Router dead

2020-03-23 Thread Patrick Salter
I’m in the middle of project and after stopping my porter cable 7529 to reset
for the next cut, I started the router and it made like a buzzing noise and
start turning much slower. Shut it off. Blew it out with air compressor. Tried
to start. Still buzzing and at first started to turn backwards for a second
before turning slower in the right direction.
Any ideas what is the problem? Brushes are good. Armature dirty? Speed control
shot? Not holding my mouth right? (Something my Dad accused me of many times)

If worse case, any suggestions for a replacement router?

Bits to start with

2018-02-18 Thread Patrick Salter
As some of you may know, I just got a new legacy 1000 still in the box
(assembly begins later this week) and the burning question in my mind is what
bits should I be looking to get started. I have a bottom bit a couple of
classic plunge bits.
Would a barley twist bit or a rope bit be better to practice with? Size?
I’m assuming that I’ll start getting bits from magnate but open to suggestions.
I’m not sure what I will be making (so many options) but will try a lot of
things to start.

Making sawdust!

2018-03-01 Thread Patrick Salter
I finally got my legacy set! I started following the fast start start video
(how did we survive watching vhs tapes!) and everything was going fine until i
got to the spiral part.
In the video he said that after making the first of multiple cuts to disconnect
the split nut, slide back router sled the width of your bit, reattach the split
nut and it should be good for the next cut.
I was using a 3/4” core bit ( no rope or barley twist bits yet) and they just
didn’t seem to line up right. After much thought (my wife said she could see
the smoke) I wondered if I couldn’t just use the index gear. I tried it and it
and it worked much better! I will try posting a picture. If it works, the first
attempt is on the bottom and on the top is using the gear index. Hmm, give me
a second to figure out posting pictures

Making signs with legacy

RE: Making signs with legacy

2018-07-31 Thread Patrick Salter
Not sure about doing raised letters. I was thinking of something similar to the
letter sets others were talking about. Those work fine if you are doing just
one or two signs. What I was thinking about was a project that we did while I
was working at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. I was teaching a wood working
program at the brig.
We had a request for about 40 plaques with a picture of a unit that had
recently returned from Iraq with the units name routed across the bottom. We
used the letter set to lay out the unit name on a piece of 1/4” plywood and
then cut them out making sure the “guide “ bushing fit into all the letters. We
then built a jig to hold the plywood “stencil “ over the plaque blanks.
I was thinking of doing the same thing but using the legacy follower. I guess
I’ll just have to try it.
