Because the same cut again removes a slight amount off just one side of your

Very Nice Video!

One nice element of this machine is being able to dis-engage the headstock and
index the part. I wish Legacy had thought of that, when making there machine!

The quality of this video is very nice. NO words, but they get there point
across, and still keep the info. fun to watch.

I just mounted and tested a 3D printed plastic duplex gear to replace the

Worst case is to make the "guide rails" found on almost all these skinny gears.

No way I will sell my 1200. I know I will get her built but the great new
wife of mine has me traveling all over kingdom come! She is new to the USA
and I am showing her as much as I can while we have summer weather. Lol.
Been through 14 states in just three months.
And so far I have built her two bedroom night stands and close to done with
two living room end tables.
Besides Tim, once I saw the picture of your machine I knew I needed to get
mine done.

Re: 2 Morse Taper

2019-08-05 Thread Ryan Jurgens
The pictures brought back memories of my machine shop days. I ran a 120"
VTM, a 5" Horizontal mill, 10' tracer lath, and a host of othe machines. At
the Rexnord/Nordberg plant where I worked they had a 26' VTM. Always loved
seeing the massive parts being machined on that HUGE machine. Then I went
into welding, and that was my most fun job!

Hi Harvey and Jim,

I live on the North side of Milwaukee . . . I would enjoy meeting up with you
guys on Thursday if you happen to have time for coffee or something like that .
. . I have a 1200 still in the boxes, now positioned to be opened and
assembled. Seeing one up close and together would be beneficial. J

I have a pretty good dust collector setup now. I set the mill right next to
the collector with its own 4" collector hose, with an option to add a
second. A clean shop is always a goal for me. 😁😁

Re: Russ youtube channel

2019-11-14 Thread Ryan Jurgens
I found his 25 Legacy videos, and quickly noted the one on dust collection.
I have been told that the Legacy makes more chips than any of the other
machines. I had anticipated that fact, and I saw a picture of a model 1800
that someone was selling that had these huge dust collector pans installed.
I had already told my wife that I didnt care for the included bag on my
brand new built 1200, but instead was going to put a 1/4" plywood skirt
between the rails. I did basically the same thing on my table saw, which
created a very nice suction from under the saw tabe. I will do the same for
my LOM.
I like a clean shop. This shouldn't be that hard to make. The biggest issue
will be to find a place to take all the chips as I unload my collector. I
wonder if this would make good pet bedding? Get a machine to make wood
pellets?

Now I understand a lot more what you meant. There are areas of our city
where people do the same. Just two weeks ago my neighbor suddenly had five
tires behind his garage. The city is constantly fighting garbage dumped on
public land and they have been installing more and more cameras. It is fun
to see them when they get caught.

Re: Legacy 1800 CNC for sale, and is CNC an option for the occasional Legacy user?

2019-12-09 Thread Ryan Jurgens
I actually had quite a bit of experience on Giddings and Lewis machining
center back in the late 80's and early 90's, that was on a five axis metal
working machine. When I started seeing the CNC stuff on the legacy I wanted
one, but about the time they were modifying the manual LOM's I was in the
middle of my big 3.5 year house rebuilding project.

Once the house was done I sat back for a few years and built up my wood
shop, picking up some pretty nice equipment and built Murphy beds and lot's
of end and night tables. I always thought about that CNC stuff, and got
close to considering the Legacy Maverick CNC 4x8. $26k was a nit much, but
I thought about all the things I could do with it . . . And then several
trips to the Philippines kind of took on a life of its own. 😁

Now that Teresita is here and I have a supportive wife, ( Uh, the trips to
the Philippines had a benefit of epic proportions.) I am now thinking about
all those fun things again, even finally putting together my New (old)
model 1200 LOM.
I have been doing some "stuff" on the 1200, but to be honest, my ultra
technical experience on the Giddings & Lewis spoiled me. I was able to edit
g code, manually entering lines into the programs directly on the machine
console. Back then the computer generated code was "sent" from an old DOS
6.1 operating system program called Genesis over network lines to the
machine console. From there I would pick it up and modify if and when
needed, which it very often did. I could even manually produce simple
programs for surfacing and making straight cuts of many types. This machine
also had a 16 place tool holder, and of course, who wouldn't like to have
that on a Legacy?

I noted the comment on the router shifting a bit on the LOM when changing
directions. I thought maybe I didn't assemble things quite right because I
see that also. In addition, I see some play in the outer rails when making
certain movements on the x and y axis cuts. I also have noted some drifting
on the z axis, I have the upgrade, and I now am beginning to think that
maybe the old plunge router sled might be more efficient for what I have
been doing thus far on the 1200.

JOE: you have the CNC package still in boxes? What would that go for it you
sold it to someone who might think about using it?

I have been thinking about modifying two LOM's to make a wide setup to
flatten boards and to do cut outs on plywood sheets. Just rambling thoughts
at this point. I have seen mills near here for a pretty los price that
might make it feasible. Maybe.

So, to CNC or not to CNC, that is A question.

I too have a computer IT background. I spent 25 years in IT, first with
building and implementing units and specializing in Windows operating
systems, then software, then Network systems. And then 20 years of
Government Public Safety System implementation and administration.

During all that time, when I saw the CNC era come into play at Legacy, my
heart was there. I visited John at Legacy in Utah four times during
business trips, even spending an hour with Tracy as he was working on a
project with the Maverick.

Hmmm.

I still think about it . . As I enjoy my retirement.

New (YES - NEW) Legacy Model 1200

2018-09-24 Thread Ryan Jurgens
Yes, you read that right.

In July of 2006 I started working on my house. I added a second floor and
redid the WHOLE outside of the structure which took me 17 months total.,
then I totally gutted and rebuilt the first floor, which took me another 6
months.

In November of 2006 I purchased a brand new Model 1200 with z-axis,
turntable, and extra gears. 9 boxes total showed up on my doorstep, I was
thinking about all the things I could do with it during the project . . .

The project was a consuming project. Not to many places to use the 1200,
most everything was cabinets and floors and walls and trim work and so on.

The house project took me three years and four months, and I think it was a
fantastic job. Built ALL my own cabinets, did all my own trim work,
everything.

But the 1200 still sat down there waiting for me. It is a very patient
machine. So far it has never complained..

It is now 2018, I just retired in June of 2018, been traveling all over
kingdom come, and I have been thinking about this 1200.

I was really concentrating on perhaps picking up a Legacy Maverick 4x8 CNC,
put aside the funds and everything.

Then I remember I am retired. I don't want to have to work to pay for that
wonderful machine. And . . . I have a Legacy 1200. (Have I already
mentioned that?)

So maybe for the fun of it I should finally unpack everything and have fun
assembling it. And yes, I have TWO Porter Cable routers, so no problem
getting the motor up and running to make this a completed machine.

As I said, I retired in June, and so far I have only been home for three
weeks (it is now mid September). And I will not be home until December 3 .
. . so stay tuned.

Winters in Wisconsin are not fun. Maybe a Legacy 1200 will be born in my
living room where it is warm.

Re: Ornamental Mills Around the World

2019-01-25 Thread RYAN JURGENS
I have been trying to add myself to the map, but it just doesn't seem to work.
I click on the map as the instructions say but nothing happens. I am an IT guy,
so I kind of know what should happen and I have tried what I can think of to
make it work but no such luck.
Suggestions?

We have a hidden group map that shows where the owners of Legacy Ornamental

The map can be found here: http://ornamentalmills.com/ map/usermap.html

For instruction on how to place your marker on the map:

This is also a great way to introduce yourself to our group.  I feel the map
should be open to all owners of Legacy's equipment.  CNC members don't be shy.

RE: LEGACY FOR SALE

2024-06-22 Thread Ryan Jurgens
After looking at the list of items and seeing the pictures, there is this tug
on the whole man cave heart that says I wish I had a lot of excess money to buy
toys that could be used to build things.

But then . . . if I had that kind of money I believe I would buy the Legacy CNC
Maverick 4 x 8 with auto tool changer.

Yes, that would be my choice . . .

But I hope someone can use the lot, it is an impressive collection. Likely will
need to come down on the price, but that again is someone else’s decision to
haggle that out if they are interested.

That is a lot of LOM's at one sitting. We can spread the word and keep this
post active so it helps you in selling.

So you're selling each machine and including its own parts then?

I am pretty sure no one can afford the whole group of machines.

In the 1980's I started working for a German company here in the US. We did
both metric and imperial. Over time, the metric became very easy.
Now retired, I spend half of my year in southeast Asia, 220v power and metric
measurements while there, 110v and imperial while here in the US. I do well
with both.
I pump my own gas here, they pump my gas there. I am OK with both.
I use self checkouts here, they check me out there. I do well with both.
We work with what we are comfortable with. And I for one will support and use
whatever works whereever I happen to be at the time.

And if you use a 19 mm wrench on a 3/4" nut you will impose unnecessary wear on

If you know any cabinet shop pros (other than yourself) that have at least half
