Re: Legacy Mill 4 Sale in Baltimore area
thank you very much for the good information. i already added a y axes to the 500, probably better then the oem legacy one. i was going to add a z axis to the 500 however i think i will now concentrate on the 1800, i like the stepper motor. thanks again. dave On Thu, Feb 11, 2016 at 5:37 PM, CURTIS GEORGE <curtgeo...@wowway.com> wrote: > Hello Dave > The 1800 is a far better machine, the 500 is the machine that I would > modify. since there is no depth control and limited gearing I would make > this machine into a roughing copy lathe of sorts. > This could be done in two different ways, the first is, by adding a > spindle and drive motor onto your 500. then you could use the router > (cutting from the side, an using a template.) to make your profile.(rough > cut) on your spindles, then switch the spindle form your 500 onto your 1800 > or lathe for the detail work. > Or to make your machine work like the old model 200 did. and make a free > floating Z axis and have the template control your depth from the top of > the spindle. > > Dave I am at work now, (my break) so I can not add any photos at t his > min. > But if you look at our archives (on the group page.) and look up spindle > drive motor, and or ... Re: Legacy Mill 4 Sale in Baltimore area
Hello Dave The 1800 is a far better machine, the 500 is the machine that I would modify. since there is no depth control and limited gearing I would make this machine into a roughing copy lathe of sorts. This could be done in two different ways, the first is, by adding a spindle and drive motor onto your 500. then you could use the router (cutting from the side, an using a template.) to make your profile.(rough cut) on your spindles, then switch the spindle form your 500 onto your 1800 or lathe for the detail work. Or to make your machine work like the old model 200 did. and make a free floating Z axis and have the template control your depth from the top of the spindle. Dave I am at work now, (my break) so I can not add any photos at t his min. But if you look at our archives (on the group page.) and look up spindle drive motor, and or ... We have lots of info on these topic already covered in the past. And if you go to our oldest archives, (the ones started by art... back at our early days.) and click on the photos, you can see, there are a few modification done to the Legacy's that just might change your thoughts of what is possible to do on your Legacy. ;-) The Sky is the limit! It's very difficult to tell. There is a label on the headstock that shows what model it is. I can't see the writing, but since the check is in the left side of the options, it is either a model 500 or 600. I have a feeling you're going to ask me how to tell the difference between a model 500 and 600, and I can only say read the fine label! -Tim - Original Message - From: mwfos...@earthlink.net To: LOM - Tim Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2015 12:43 PM Subject: Legacy Mill 4 Sale in Baltimore area Model number for this Mill is not specified - but it appears to be a small, early model; 40 w/acrylic gear train. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/tls/4842605427.html Does anyone know model number/name for it? Tim,The ad must appear different in the Pacific NW than it does here - only 60 miles from Baltimore. The CraigsList ad I saw reads: Legacy ornamental mill -router lathe - $455The "manual" in one of the photos reads Legacy 500EXL / Legacy 600EXLSo I guess we are back to which is it - and what differentiates one from the other?
