Re: Found a Revo..

2010-02-02 Thread Tim Krause
Unresolved topic in my mind. I tried several inexpensive quick things. When
Bill made his own top hat bushings he added a few thousands to the bushing,
and that probably helped until the delrin wore down where it rubs against
the aluminum rails. Some year I'll get around to replacing the delrin with
a real bearing setup. I even thought about replacing only one side of the
carriage assembly with real bearings, but never completed the task. I am
concerned about wear against a steel bearing, and the aluminum rail.
Ultimately V bearings and rails is my next choice. They are a compact dust
resistant design.

I tried to add the nylon screws to the setup, but in the stock setup, they
are facing the wrong direction. I tried to mount them from the side using
an aluminum bracket, but by the time the play was taken out, the metal was
bending, and the friction was too high. Which brought me back to using real
bearings.

I redesigned the bushings to be similar to the old 1000 model, but I did a
very poor job on the machining and moved on before perfecting the bushings.

What Bill is talking about is a pair of bushing on the back side of the X
carriage. The bushing in back are straight. A top hat style would require
a little hand fitting to make right for all machines. I think he's moving
in a good direction.

2010-02-02 Thread curt george

Good morning everyone.
Bill this is an old topic, "removing slop form the 900's carriage". Tim and
I have talked about this one. and I believe that he was able to get a
satisfactory bushing set made up for his carriage,If Im not mistaken, you
are on the right track, by making some new top-hat bushing, If my memory
serves me accurately. But Tim would know better than my on this topic. But on
my 1000ex I have square "T" shaped bushings, and one the model 200 I was
able to add nylon screws to add stability for its carriage. And if you want
to talk sloppy, you should try looking at the old Woodchuck and its flat
guides and steel rails.
I guess what Im trying to say is play with your set up and see if you can
improve it, if not? I know that you should be able to figure out a way to
play by the house rules, and adapt for the slop, Remember its the artist that
uses the tools that make the work, not the other way around.

I need to get off for work now.
have a great day. and Please let us know how it "turns out". :-)

Hi guys
one thing I have noticed about the revo its a much more stable little mill
than the 900 I was trying to do a liner job a few days ago and found there
was too much movement in the saddle to accurately reproduce what I was
doing because the revo runs on 4 top hat bushes it seems much more stable.
think I might make some top hat bushes for the back of the 900s saddle to
see if it will make it a little more stable
fine mill the revo just a little small at times if its all you own. my job
was too large for it I found another way to do it
