I forgot one element, the arm is a T shape because the bearing has to be touching the pattern on one, or other side of the pattern, this way If I want to change the direction of the pattern all that I have to do is hold the spindle in place un-lock the arm form the indexing gear, and rotate the follower to the under side of the pattern. The direction changes because of the location of the follower and the patterns center line. By changing the size of the pattern and the speed of the of movement of the LOM carriage you can get different sized patterns of cuts.on a spindle. Now what Should be neat is to try to use this set up on a flat work like face-plate work on a lathe. I am betting that the patterns will make some very neat looking rosette's, but I have had time to try this idea YET. Hopefully soon to come. Have a good night. OK David I was just waiting to see if any one wanted to know how it was done. I will show a few more pictures that will hopefully explain how it work. Making the adapter, the adapter is a hand drill, cut off wheel arbor. I made the mounting for it out of an old steel washer and a few tack wields,All that I had to do was aligned up the holes on the Duplex gear and then drill some new holes the washer so that the screws of the duplex gear, could hold the arbor in place. The arm is a simple T shaped bracket, there is a ball-bearing mounting in each end of the T. On the bottom of the T I made a bracket that has a hole that is taped to set a index pin into.(this aligns the arm and the indexing gear.) Lastly I Line up the arm and place it on top of the pattern (Rosetta) In this case a hart shaped pattern. I use a light spring or a weight, to hold the follower an the pattern together. I find the an oval ,elliptical and hart shapes work the best. fancy patterns don't work well.
