Re: What would you do???

I'm in the same boat. Basically, its buying older computers on ebay, like
pentium 4s from name brand vendors with reinstallation media still intact.
I agree that $3000 is alot given the technical hurdles. I'd be really
concerned about the CNC hardware itself inside the box and replacing any of
it if needed.

As for that LOM 2000/2200 in California - Has ANYONE ever received a reply from
the person posting it?

Joe is right - it's been "For Sale" for a LONG time!

I've decided it must be someone with NO desire to sell the machine (IF they
even own it!) It could be photos of a LOM they "harvested" from the internet -
and they are getting their jollies posting it and getting inquiries from us and
seeing the comments/discussions on our site. If there is a member of this
group that lives anywhere near that Mill, it would be interesting if they'd
actually call the bluff and go check it out - even if they don't care to buy
it.

If you do, please post your results - along with some pictures of what you saw.

Merry Christmas to all - and to all - a Good Night. (I guess it is already the
25th for you Bill.)

May God Bless Everyone.

Thank's Joe.

Merry Christmas to you as well.

For me the Z axis is what I want, (of a matter of coarse longer bed would also
be nice.) but I too am NOT a CNC type of person. (Sometimes I have problems
just running this E-mail stuff.) ;-p unless I plan to do wood working as a
business in the future, Then perhaps a CNC would be necessary, but as for now,
I'm out NO Way No How am I going to play with that...

As far as the 2000/2200 on E-bay, I have e-mailed him twice asking if he had
the gears sets. NO REPLY from him. That would be an awesome machine to own if
its all there!

I too have no idea on why its still on E-bay.It has been there for a LONG TIME,
Perhaps it the distance/shipping cost problem ? Perhaps its just a money thing?
(He thinks his machine is worth $75,000 and we think its worth $75.00...) ;-)

Have a very Happy Holiday.

I wounder if you could have both? CNC and manual?an electronic gear box is
something Tim K and I talked about years ago.( before Legacy went into CNC.)
Can you have your cake and eat it too?   ;-)

Hello Dexter getting it out of the shop will not be all that hard. And I may
have a new owner for this table?
The Funny thing about this is your suggestion of making a claw foot, I was also
thinking along those lines as well. But I was thinking of trying the Legacy for
that job ,AT least in part...
If you took a reeding bit and an index plate. I think it would be possible to
make a pretty rough claw foot. something these would be possible. Im sure with
some trial and error, someone out there could make a nice looking claw foot on
or with the Legacy.

Hay guy! (people) How about it? Lets make it a challenge. who can make the best
feet ?
I will give it a shot, but it may take a few days, Im getting behind on my
Honey do list. (I have to make some wooden shelf's for a cabinet and a new
screen door, before I can play.) ;-)

Just some Food for thought.
Thanks Dexter.

I like it. The only thing missing is pulling out a chisel and carving out the
toe's and making it a claw-foot table. Now the only problem is how to get out
of your shop. If yours is like mine, space is at premium.

Hi Curt
What you do with this table is a low priority! But what does count is that you
have had at least 4 hours of quality wood working time which has been
stimulating and thought provoking, it may even have made others think and got
their creative juices working.

If you think you can out think your wife forget it, the ladies think different
and have different priorities to men, just keep on “her in-door’s good side”.

Re: What would you do???

2015-05-06 Thread MWF
Curtis,I was wondering who took my table out of the pile I put at the street JKThe table is a "simple" table (design-wise). I feel if you turn some "fancy" legs, you will make it like the "jack-a-lope" - too peculiar to be appreciated. My vote is to finish "refinishing" it and then either sell it via Craigslist (not eBay) or donate it to your local Salvation Army Store, Habitat for Humanity's "Re-store" or to the Red Cross or Goodwill. Definately - do NOT put it back in the trash. (If you don't want to do any of the above - it can be burned in your outdoor fireplace/chimea. Just keep it out of the landfill.) I have seen folks place items out at the curb with a sign that reads "FREE!". Some that do that even list it on CraigsList - under "Free Stuff" - as a "Curb Alert".Best of luck.Mac-Original Message-

Re: What would you do???

2015-05-06 Thread Roger P
Hi Curt
The phrase “Who said put it back in the garbage?” was British humour at play or
even work.

I plead guilty to doing similar things from time to time. A few years back I
salvaged a couple of alabaster table lamp base from the skip (UK version of a
building site dumpster which costs about $300 a week to hire) and I was going
to clean them up re-wire and then sell them and probably I would have made
$100 to $150.00 on the pair, guess what they just went for re-cycling a week
ago as we are moving house and my workshop is being cleared!

The free wood value idea is the best given the astronomic rise in the price of
wood.

If it was me I would now sell it and realise a few bucks if I could, I would
not spend time enhancing it unless that adds lots of dollars.
Regards
Euro Roger

The rest of the table is quite plain,so I would not make a jack-a-lope out of
it as someone else described it. If you are not going to keep it, i would sell
it or give to some needy college student to use. I would sell it for at least
the cost of poly and sand paper that you have used on it. Not a bad looking
table for what it is.

RE: What would you do???

2015-05-06 Thread Bill Bulkeley
If I was altering the legs I think I would do a really fast pitch like one turn
for the length of the leg with many starts in a rope but it really is a
personnel choice and there is heaps as you know

Make a whole new leg from scrap to see what it will look like first then if you
don’t like it leave them as they are and warm your self with the scrap leg or
use the designer kit and do some life size drawings of legs and stick them to
the legs to see what new ones will look like that’s why we have the design kits
isn’t it. I always do that.
