Re: [LegacyUG] Sub News Letter Printing.

2006-07-29 Thread Cathy

Hi,
Whether you print Name Cards or Mailing Labels, you can use the same
Report - Name Tags.

Whether they are Name Cards or Mailing Labels depends on what you
choose to print on them. You can Customise the output.

When you get to the Print via Reports - Name Tags - you can choose to
print a tagged group or those in the tagged group with a mailing address.

You get very similar options via View - Master List - Addresses -
Options - Print - but from there you can't choose a tagged group but
can choose one of your Mailing List categories.

Hope that solves the problem as you seem to have tagged the group you want.

Cathy

Leon andCathy, many thanks for your help - almost there. Leon, I
could print Name Cards using Tag 4 using your procedure; but want to
print Mailing Labels.

Here is a composite of both of your suggeation. Red Colored steps
added for clarification.

Please help me to successfully print the Sub-list Mailing Address Labels.

1. Tag everyone in the Newletter mailing list;Done on each Individual's Page

   A. Search, Find, (Detaild Search Tab) Individual, Address-Mailing
List, Equal to, Newletter
   A1. Click on Create List.

   B. At bottom of Search window, "Options", "Advanced Tagging"

   C. Clear All Tag Numbers for Everyone

   D. Use Tag 1 & tag everyone in search list
This tags everyone that is on the Newletter mailing list.

Now it gets tricky as I see NO choice of Tag for printing Mailing
Labels; There is that option for Name cards and the following worked
well (or just Tag 4 and select Name Cards). But can NOT print the
Sub List Mailing Labels

2. Recreate your Tag 4 list whatever it is (do not clear all tags
this time). Double clicked on those of the 97 now Tagged 1. I want
to print Sub-list Mailing Labels. I tagged them Tag 4, which makes
it simple to make Name Tags.

3. Search, Find, Individual, Tag 4, Equal to, Tagged
A1. Click on Create List
Cathy, sorry but I checked the ones I wanted as Tag 4 -so reversing
your numbers 2 & 4 should do the same.

But I do not see how to print only the Sub List Mailing Labels as
there seems to be no option other than the inherent Newsletter
Tagging that occurs on an Individual's screen. Lead me home, please.

We found that the files which support each of the non-US English versions
(UK, Canadian, Australian) were incorrect. The first line of the file is
supposed to be the language version but all haved English - US on that
line.

If you want to fix this yourself, until we bring out a new release with
the files fixed, look for the files in the Legacy Program folder with a
.trn extension. Open the files in Notepad and change the first line to
match the version of English that .trn file says it should be. English
(Canadian).trn should have English - Cdn on line 000. Now when you select
the report language it will show the correct version.

Leon's procedure:
A. Repeat steps 1B & !D (do not clear all tags for everyone)
We now have your newsletter mailing list plus your Tag 4 folks all
tagged as Tag 1.
4. Now do a Report, All Reports, Name Tags, and print only
individuals with Tag 1

Is there anyway to copy (type) data from an actual Census document into
one of the blank census forms provided in Legacy "Reports", and then
copy that completed form into, say, "Events" or "Notes"?

Any help will be much appreciated - thanks.

Re: [LegacyUG] Gedcoms in Family Tree Maker

2006-07-29 Thread E.Rodier
Which version of FTM? Legacy 6 may need custom import setting to get the
correct note spacing if "let Legacy decide" default does not work. Legacy
users often make many changes before looking at the note spacing after a
GEDCOM import -- could be a broken word in each line of notes.

Legacy 6 was never updated to recognize the note spacing (splitting in the
middle of words) of FTM 2006 released August 2005. It should be okay with
FTM 2005 but I didn't check today.

If the original database involved other transfers or merges, watch for
run-together words, short lines and duplicated notes.

Client may expect your version of the family history to include FTM-style
box charts. Charts will be different if locations are edited the "Legacy
way" and a GEDCOM sent back to FTM. Long locations in Legacy include place
holder commas. -- Elizabeth

I'm ghost writing a family history and one of my clients will be sending me
a gedcom of her family tree created in Family Tree Maker. Is there anything
I should watch out for or tell her to do before sending it? Any glitches
you've encountered when importing from FTM?

RE: [LegacyUG] Gedcoms in Family Tree Maker

2006-07-29 Thread Jan Buker
They do not have one unless it was user created. User's can create any
"fact" field they like in FTM. One large problem with FTM is when they went
from one edition to another (don't remember which on) they changed Facts to
Comments so there are holdovers from that, in some cases you have both. In
Legacy they are called "events".

Hi all. I'm so grateful for all your input. I have one question that
came up when I tried transferring my Reunion files to Legacy. I don't
know if FTM has this so maybe some of you can tell me. I know that
Legacy has fields for religion and bar and bas mitzvahs, but they
don't have a field for Religious name, which Reunion does. In addition
to their regular names, most American Jews have Hebrew names. I now
know that I have to identify this tag for Legacy when I do the import.
My question: does FTM have a field for religious name and will I have
to watch out for this?
