Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy News comes as garbage in my inbox.

2006-12-22 Thread WILLIAM HATHAWAY

I thought we'd discovered ET (sorry bad in-joke - I get those a lot.)
Actually I get these garbage messages at my work email virtually every day.
Up to a hundred junk mail spam and automated mass mailings on every
topic trying to sell ludicrous products in at least four languages every
day.
(I've had the address for over ten years and the site is extensively used -
we
have massive levels of filters and firewalls - and 75% of the junk is
filtered

out before we even see it.)

What I want to know - how does Mike disagnose the embedded javascript?
What is the format that indicates this semi-code? I want to avoid/filter
it out

in general use also.

Wm. H.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy News comes as garbage in my inbox.

2006-12-22 Thread WILLIAM HATHAWAY
Is the javascript the if and endif, etc. stuff? Funny - my original copy
did not show anything but the non-alphabetic characters. Only the reply from
Duane asking about it showed these pieces of code. I'm guessing different
mailers handle messages differently. He probably did not even see it until it
got out and came back. (Hence my question of how to filter.)

Hello list,

In the above version when creating the Family Group record using the list
format for events, my event description using the maximum # of characters
allowed for entry is truncated; only part of the description shows or prints
and the description ends with a ~.
I don't see this corrected in the latest update. Does this work for anyone

The message also shows up funny within Thunderbird when viewed as any
form of HTML (simple or original). When viewed as plain text, it shows
up more or less okay, albeit without the formatting of previous
messages. I'd therefore have to concur with Geoff: the transmitting
service (feedblitz.com) has had a problem.

When I look at the full source of Duane's message, I can see this

Add to Address Book javascript:document.frmAddAddrs.submit()

This is either intended to add the From address (Duane) to your address
book, or, submit your verified email address to Duane. Now why would an
innocent list member want to do that? The other piece of rubbish in the
message (the bit about adding a mobile alert) traces back to Yahoo.com.

Almost the same in one of my famalies. The father was a rat and now dead.
The adoptive father treated him like a true son. Have shown the true DOB of the
boy and have the potential problem disabled for him.

Not sure if this is proper but did it to avoid ill feelings in that family.

parents: Father and 1st wife.

Select the child. Add new parents: Father and second wife. Now, the child
has two sets of parents. You may then set the child's relationship to all
three parents to adopted or biological as appropriate.

And as someone else just pointed out, it's a little cool to bare it at the
moment ...

When I enter a child that was the biological child of two people who later
divorced and that child was then adopted by the second wife of the
biological father of the child, how do I get the child to show up under both

This is very easy Pat, just go to the biological father and second wife's
screen, now go to the add button at the top of the screen and click on son,
a new screen will come up so click on the link to existing person button,
scroll to the name of the child, highlight the child and click the select
button. When a new screen comes up saying that this child belongs to another
set of parents just click the OK button to attach him to a new set of
parents. Now that he is attacked to the biological father and second wife,
go to the view button at the top of the screen and click on it then click on
the childrens list, now for the fathers relationship click biological, for
the mothers relationship click the one that best describes her relation to
the child (step, adoptive, etc).

Hope this helps.

[LegacyUG] Automatic sentences for events in reports

2006-12-22 Thread Pat Jones
I see that the Deluxe Edition, which I have, automatically forms
the events into sentences when printed. How about if I don't
want to use them in sentences, is there a way to shut off that
option? I had hoped the 'sentence override' would do it, but it
doesn't. I really hate to just delete all the options under
sentence override. Any suggestions? What do others think
about the automatic sentences and their useage - the pros and
cons.

Is this the chart report or the Descendant Book Report. The Chart Report does
not allow sources but the Desacendant Book should allow sources. If it is the
book style report try clicking the Reset button on the Report screen to reset
the options then use the Report Options Button to see if the sources can be

Yes, I'm seeing the same thing, so I would say it's normal. For including
source information, try the Family Group report under the Family tab,
where source can be included. Not the same, I know, but if you're going to
display the chart somewhere, perhaps you could have reports nearby for
people to check if they want to see where you got a particular detail from?

Hope this helps. :-)
