Re: [LegacyUG] U.S. County Verification
Jill here is the info from the Legacy help file on Sort Location List: Location Prepositions Oftentimes you or others will find and enter location names with a preceding preposition such as of, or near. Many locations are recorded in this manner. Normally these prepositions cause the location names to be displayed in different places in the Master Location List. For example, Barcelona, Spain and of Barcelona, Spain sort toward the beginning and the middle of the list. While viewing the Master Location List in sorted order, you can have the prepositions removed so that all locations that are alike are displayed together. To do this, select the option: Remove common prepositions from locations at the bottom of the window. Note: This only removes the prepositions in the sorted view of the list. They are not removed from the actual location names. All printed and displayed place names throughout the rest of the program include the prepositions. Note: The prepositions recognized by Legacy are contained in a file called Prepositions.lst kept in the folder where Legacy was installed. Click here to see the default list of prepositions and how to add to or edit this file. Estimated Locations Many of your locations might have angle brackets around them. For example, Seattle, King, WA. While viewing in sorted order you can have the leading brackets removed so that the location will sort together with their unbracketed counterparts. To do this, select the option: Remove Leading Bracket from bracketed locations. This only removes the opening bracket from the location in the sorted view of the list. The trailing bracket is left at the end of the location so you can tell that it is an estimated location. 5-58 Hope this answers your question. You can get to that by opening your master location list and click on the Sort button and the Sort Location List box will pop up. I use the bracketed to show estimated locations. if I have somebody that was listed as Of someplace I usually put that in the birth notes location. I have transferred it from PAF to Legacy and have been working on cleaning it up. In the USA County Verification, I have 188 pgs. I find that most of the problems are: 1)She put Of Cherokee, Iowa or something similar in the location. There is no County called Of Cherokee. How is the best way to change this? I notice there is the preposition that you can change in the Master Location List. Would I make a location titled Prep: Of and then put the location? I am concerned if I do this, when look at the person's data, I won't know if it means In Cherokee or Of Cherokee. 2) Other entries she put Cherokee?, Iowa There is not a County called Cherokee?. I am assuming she meant Did they come from Cherokee? Possibly, but not sure Is there a better way to data input that so it won't be on the County Verification list? I appreciate anyone's ideas so I can get this list to a manageable size to work with. Thanks, Jill King -- Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! Re: [LegacyUG] Suggestion for future feature amendment
I agree, besides when you open the person's screen you will see all the tags that that person has. I have some tags that I have defined meaning a certain thing and only want those to show when I am looking for the people with that particular info. I usually leave one or two for temp and show the appropriate one I am working with as the third. [LegacyUG] Help about incognito
Good morning (or other) This is the first time I subscribe this list and the first time I submit a question. I'm portuguese so my english may not be so good and I apologize for that. My question is: How do I put someone's father as "incognito"? This is not the same thing as"unknown" when I don't know or have enough information about the person but is really "incognito" as defined in the church record. If I have more than one family with "incognito" fathers how do I diferentiate them. I can define a person as "incognito 1", "incognito 2" etc. but I think that this is not the right way. Can you help me please? As I use google to search for my surname (Salreta), I've found a Susan Salreta in USA, Michigan, Clawson - How can a get the telephone number or email address to contact this person to see if she belongs to my family? There is one record for Salreta in Michigan, but I think you will have to pay a small fee to get the details. http://clawson.addresses.com/white_pages_city/21149.html is the search page for the White Pages (telephone directory) in Clawson. You will need to search for the surname Salreta, *not* including the forename Susan, but she is shown as a relative. Tip for anyone else wanting to find people in other countries - put their hometown or state and White Pages into Google. -- Jenny M Benson Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? Re: [LegacyUG] Help about incognito
My question is: How do I put someone's father as incognito? If you know the father's name and simply do not wish to reveal it to others, you can leave it blank or use the word Incognito as has been suggested. If you want a way to be able to make a note to yourself of what the name is, but not let anyone else see it, anything you put into a Notes field between double square brackets, [[like this]], will be excluded when you print or export your data. Re: [LegacyUG] Help about incognito
PS - You also seemed to be concerned about how to distinguish between Incognito individuals. As long as you choose to add a new individual when you add a father for someone, each one will be a separate person in the database. You can have multiple people with the same name, whether that name is Fred Smith or Incognito. Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy?
