[LegacyUG] Passage Express Overflow error

2007-08-05 Thread Martin Briscoe
I tried to make up a Passage Express DVD last night so that I can pass on to
a relative.

I got many thousands of Overflow errors. When I looked this up on the
Passage Express website I found the suggestion to reload the software, did
that and exactly the same.

Is there an upper limit to the number of individuals or images that can be
added to a Passage Express file?

thanks for the guidance. after creating the focus group i was able to search

Hi Mike,

Search Miscellaneous Tab
select the button next to Focus Group
Use the View/Select Focus Group button to create your group - with
yourself as the starting persons you want Direct Line Ancestors -
it's up to you whether you include other spouses and siblings. If you
already have some other group showing in the window, clear the window first.
Then click OK on that Focus Group window
On the Search window click Create List after making sure Clear list
before this search is chosen.
When you have your list,
bring the Source Tab to the front and go through your list direct
line ancestors to check for BMD certificates.
That's assuming you've used the certificates as a source.

I can't think of a more efficient way, even with other programs. You
can find people without a birth source etc with GenViewer but there
are many other sources to a birth so that wouldn't show missing certificates.

Depending on how you've named your sources and what you've made a
Master Source, it may be more efficient to go to the Source Report
after tagged relevant sources or, if you file certificates all
together, to your relevant hard copy folder or computer folder.
However, you still need the list of Direct line ancestors.

Cathy

At 12:56 PM 4/08/2007, you wrote:

help please,

my direct ancestral lines. i think i need to start with a focus
group but beyond that i have run out of efficient idea's. step by

Re: [LegacyUG] Re: Report/GED How-To or Wishlist Item

2007-08-05 Thread Admkirkb

Thanks John,

I learned some new tricks with Legacy by following your suggestion.

This may make it a bit easier to do what I had done .. still a bit
difficult with any size line (I have 12000+ in my Legacy database and
some long lines).

I think this is a wish-list item. Given that the heart of what I am
asking for is there, i.e box-chart Lineage report, it seems it could
be added somewhat easily to allow for other reports (narrative, etc),
and to have GED export of the selected folks.Alternatively, some
tuning or an additional selection box for the Focus Group selection
would do to provide the desired functions.

I apologize to the group for not trimming my last post.

Kirk,
Try this:
1. Select the earliest individual.
2. Open the Descendants tab.
3. Select Options from right hand side.
4. Select Cutomize Columns.
5. Choose to display a column for (for example) Tag 1.
6. Now, rather than UNTAG the people you don't want, go down the
list and TAG all the people you want to keep. This should be easier
than untagging, depending on how big this line is.

7. Export all Tag 1 individuals to a new Legacy file.

Not very direct, but it should do what you want.

Good luck,

Hi John,

Thank you for the response. I actually tried to do this .. I found
(unless I am doing it wrong) that using this tagging method with the
lineage focus group, included more than the line (at least when
including spouse/children) .. i.e. it included the spouses
descendants beyond the immediate line of interest. So this left
me with much more than I wanted. And it took way too much manual
untagging to make this practical for any but simple cases.
It could still be a matter that I am not aware of something here,
but I found with quite a bit of trying that I could not do what I
described.

Thanks,

[LegacyUG] Other problem with .155 update

2007-08-05 Thread La Nell Shores
I don't like the new search string for Ancestry.com that is included in the
.155 update. It greys out the top line for Given Names and only allows
the second line to be First Name. The old string allowed searches for
the entire given name. I always used that first then refined the searches
and removed the middle name or changed it to an initial.

I kept my old make-due Ancestry.com search string that allows searches for
full Given Names and use that exclusively.
