Re: [LegacyUG] Sentence vs. list format

2007-10-22 Thread Cathy

Hi Claire,

Sentences are always clearer. However, depending on the event a list
style can be clear depending on how you've used the fields.

If you choose Sentence Style, you can set up the Sentences for some
events to read like a list style.
If you add a new Event type, the Event Sentences automatically
generated are in list style so you can see how to do this.

Do you know you can vary the "he did ..."
If you use the code [FirstHeShe] then the events alternate using the
First name (note this is the quoted name if you are using quoted
names in narratives)

Also, you don't have to put the [FirstHeShe] at the beginning of the
Sentence so can include variety that way as well.

Another way to add variety, especially for someone with a lot of
events, you can use a Sentence Override occasionally, even though the
default sentence reads OK.

In the templates, there automatic empty spaces, fields
and lines. Example: To Do list; what to include; I
made it 0 blank lines. Most if not all of the reports
have similar choice areas. I went through over a year
ago, so do not remember wher all of them are. The
_, are found in Descendent Narrative; Inser
Underlines for Missing; take checks out.
Good luck finding them.

Re: [LegacyUG] Reports have blank pages

2007-10-22 Thread Cathy

Hi Gwen,

Can you clarify?

The reports have blank pages deliberately at the beginning after the
title and content pages - like a book. You don't mean those blank pages do you?

Some sections can also be set to start on a new or odd numbered page.
See the tick box in the Index section
See tick box on Page Layout tab - Start each generation on a new
page. If you don't have many notes or events, I suspect that could
possibly sometimes cause a blank page.

You say "that is fine". Do you mean that the preview is fine and
doesn't have blank pages?

What happens if you save to PDF? Does that have the blank pages?

Are you sure you are not just printing odd or even pages when you
come to print.

Are you including pictures at "original size"? That can mess up the
page breaks.

Sorry I can't think of anything else.
If it's the preview with the unusual blanks, it could be a memory
problem with your computer.

I'm assuming you have a new computer and haven't put XP on your old
98 computer. Many computers running Win98 didn't have enough RAM to
handle XP. Same with the switch to Vista from XP. Each operating
system wants more and more RAM - and you usually need at least twice
the minimum recommended by Microsoft.

Cheers,
Cathy

You don't say *what* reports, but it sounds as though you are in one
that has the option to insert underlines where information is missing.

Check the Options tab (the main one you see first when you start to set
up a report) for ticks in the boxes top left for Insert Underlines for
Missing Given and Surnames/Dates and Places.

I do a lot of redundant cross referencing. personal

'text' prints the lists of photos, not needing to
