Re: [LegacyUG] Want all family Group Records for a person and his descendants

2007-12-17 Thread Rob Vader
Yes, the outcome clearly shows that when I choose a person and the
(entire) descendant list you are right. But as an Innocent user I
would expect that when I pick a person and the descendant list that I
get the descendants of this person in the focus group...but clearly
the developers of Legacy have implemented something else. I am not yet
clear what to do to find all descendants from 1 person down. There is
not such a thing as a special search action defined. And searching on
name is also not possible as this would give me too much persons.

Re: [LegacyUG] mrin search

2007-12-17 Thread Brian/Support

Problem report submitted to programmers.
As stated elsewhere in this thread, the beta release is working but I
found three defects in the General Release 6.0.0.168

1. MRIN search returns no records.
2. Individual Search by RIN returns no records.
3. When looking at the choices for How to Look for Individual RIN the
list seems to be the list used for dates not for RIN. My list was Equal
to, Before, After, Not Equal to and Contains.

Re: [LegacyUG] Search Criteria?

2007-12-17 Thread Susan Perrett

Thank you for this recipe! I will try it out as well as Cathy's.

Will definitely keep on file for further reference.

Cheers,

At 05:34 PM 17/12/2007, you wrote:

OR
Tag everyone. (T3)
search for, living, untag them.
Search for T3
search for will, untag them.
search for T3

search for T3
You can do all three at once using AND AND. This will
leave all dead Johnsons with no will.
You will have to look individually to check if these
ever reach adulthood, meaning they might have one, or
intestate. If dead as child, remove T3.
This should do a substantial pruning of the group.
Cathy is correct, but using this might get 95% pruned.

Re: [LegacyUG] Reports

2007-12-17 Thread Cathy

Hi Art,
No.
You need to add extra events and attach the photos to those.
eg Photo Event - use the Description or Notes to describe the photo.

Re: [LegacyUG] Want all family Group Records for a person and his descendants

2007-12-17 Thread Cathy

Hi Rob,
The Descendant options for tagging and focus groups give you two options.
The first does what you ask.

The second gives the Entire line - which, as it explains, includes
the ancestors of people picked up in the descendancy and their
descendants as well - designed to pick up everyone relevant to that
branch of the family. It works well unless you have marriages between branches.

RE: [LegacyUG] Reports

2007-12-17 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
Or you can scan multiple pictures into one 'big' one,
not quick or easy, but creating a page for a book,
might be worth the trouble. You would then make it
into 'one' page size photo.

Re: [LegacyUG] Newsgroup Etiquette - was Hollerith

2007-12-17 Thread Gary Templeman
And I totally disagree. I have a full time job and already get upwards of
100 emails a day. If I wanted to wade through multiple messages of people's
reminiscing I would join a reminiscing list. We need to think of a mailing
list more like a big room full of people discussing a specific topic. In
those circumstances, those who want to engage in a conversation that is not
of interest to the entire group will whisper to each other in private or
have a small group discussion off to the side. If we were all in one room
discussing Legacy issues no one would be shouting out their computer stories
to the entire group.

There are still places in the world where people have to pay by the minute
for their Internet connection, or have slow dial-up connections. It seems
very inconsiderate to subject those folks to multiple off-topic messages
that they need to waste their time and money on. At the very least, clearly
label the message thread as something off-topic so it can be easily filtered
out by those who have neither the time or desire to read the fluff.

I have been a LUG member for sometime. I have not been a contributor,
only a watcher and listener At my age (80) I feel that the less said the
better.
However with regard to the afore mentioned off subject letters about
computers, which I suppose should be kept within limits, I say to those
who complain:
These experiences are the very meat of the things you are so hung up
about with your grandfathers and great grandfathers. Twenty years from
now your children and grandchildren will be scurrying around to find
such things about their ancestors.
During this whole thing I have not read one word of anger,
vituperativeness, berating or vulgarity, only a little reliving of some
good memories.
Genealogists are your priorities only on 100 year old statistics?

Merry Christmas!, My some of the good memories you record be your own.

Re: [LegacyUG] mrin search

2007-12-17 Thread Richard Van Wasshnova

I am using V.155 and I get a good list of individuals.
MRIN less than 5; get 8 individuals.
MRIN less than 6; get 10 individuals.
MRIN less than 11; get 20 individuals.
MRIN less than 100; get big list, guessing about 198 individuals.

I am not able to do a detailed search for MRIN less than 100. It tells
me there are no such records. Yes, there are...

Is anyone able to duplicate this?
