Re: [LegacyUG] Trouble accessing certain forms

2009-01-07 Thread Colin Liddell
An interesting response Sherry, all the Lists I belong to complain when
anyone TOP POSTS. They insist that by bottom posting it is all in the
correct sequence and you can follow the replies down the page from others.

But if it is TOP POSTING you require here, I will follow.

A bit like Lumpers and Splitters I suppose.{;-)

The only reply I could find was a Legacy URL giving help on installing
Legacy when you are using Windows Vista as your OS.

Just a suggestion - when you reply to an email, please clear out the lines
that Legacy's list program adds to the end of messages. Trim to just the
pertinent part of the previous message.

And please top post. I'm sure there's a reply in here somewhere, but I
certainly can't find it!

Leaving message intact as it was sent to the group - so you all can see all
the "junk" in it - and please let me know if you can find a response to

You say you're running Legacy 7, but have you verified you're
running the
latest update? (currently version 7.0.0.86, check the 'Legacy Home'

[LegacyUG] Group in Brisbane??

2009-01-07 Thread Reg SHERLOCK

Hello Karen and also Colin

No there is not yet a Legacy User Group in Brisbane to my knowledge, there
is someone else also who wished to start a group out that region,
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/UsersGroups.asp

A few years ago I ran classes to introduce retired persons to Legacy using
the (then) lesson disks.

It would seem that whilst we do receive support above and beyond from
Millennia as such distributors out here in the land down-under seem to be
overly interested in promotion of certain other programs, which to be very
honest should hide in the shade of LEGACY.

Please make contact.

p.s. have you accessed version 6 lessons ?, I will soon buy the lessons for
Seven to use as did prior.

PLEASE respond by direct email so as not to clutter the GROUPSs mail boxes.

Hi Jill,

I am a relatively newcomer to Legacy, I converted from FTM a few months
ago and would benefit greatly from a User Group in Brisbane.
I, like you, would like to learn more about the complexities of this
program, I know I am not yet using it to it's full capacity as I am just a
learner.
I did buy the CDs of the tuition and they do help but there is nothing

Hi Colin and Jill and anyone else in Brisbane.

There is a group at Strathpine Library run by a library volunteer.

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9am. We'd love to have you
join!

Hi Karen,

I take it that the next meeting is on next Tuesday the 13th? I will do my

How long does the meeting go for?

[LegacyUG] Re:Cannot access forms Ver 7 Deluxe

2009-01-07 Thread JCTripp
Ron,
In Ver 6 Deluxe, there is a Forms Center. In that same window is a Browse
button. When I select browse, my path is displayed. Folder C:\ then Folder
Legacy then Folder Forms. Because I don't have the knowledge for any fancy
footwork, I assume this is default (and I do realize this is for 6 Deluxe
with XP). If you do have any fancy footwork in your program (intentional or
not), this Browse button may help to find the path to your forms. I do
realize you are using 7 & Vista. If you don't find a path that you
understand, you can post that path information and I'm sure this list will
help you.

I receive no errors and no other screen opens.I'm using Legacy 7 and Vista

You say you're running Legacy 7, but have you verified you're running
the
latest update? (currently version 7.0.0.86, check the 'Legacy Home'

Without a doubt you have no patience and have probably not viewed any of the
videos. I have three messages from you in two days and that includes this
one.
Using genealogy programs such as Legacy and TMG is a learning experience.
Take a deep breath, get a grip, and view the training videos, then start at
point A and slowly work your way to point Z. Rome was not built in a day and
you will not learn to use Legacy in 48 hours.

RE: [LegacyUG] BOOK Plain Text!

2009-01-07 Thread Sherry/Support
If you send a message in HTML instead of plain text, please do not resend
the message in plain text. That just increases the number of messages that
come through to the list and heaven knows it's busy enough as it is!

Listers might reply to either message so the whole thread continuity will be
lost.

And don't write "oops, I'm sorry I sent that last message in HTML". Again,
unnecessary. Just put a big sticky note on your monitor that says "LUG

Reports - Books/Other - Publishing Centre. I then highlighted the

then clicked Preview and a 62 page 'book' was visible to see.

Is this what you did? If so and it didn't work perhaps you have a problem.

RE: [LegacyUG] (no subject)

2009-01-07 Thread leo macdonald

Hi, I just tried my program and everything works fine, I'm not sure what you
are doing so I will walk you through what I'm doing, maybe it will help you.
1. go to reports, all reports, Form center.
2. click on the +. or double click on the words "Census Forms". This will
expand the list of census.
3. click on Britain
4. click on preview
5. if this is the form you want click print.

If you choose Canada and click preview it will display both the 1851 and 1901
census forms, if you only want the 1901 form printed then you will have to
click on the + sign beside the word Canada then click on 1901, then click
preview, then click print.

Now for the interview Questions
1. go to reports, all reports, interview reports.
2. you will see a + and a box beside My Memories
3. if you want a report called My Memories click on the box, a check mary will
appear in the box.
4. click preview
5. if this is the one you want click print.

If you do not want to include all the questions listed in this questionnaire
you can click on the + sign beside "My Memories" to expand it and in there you
can select which questions that you want to include or exclude in your
interview report, by placing or removing a check mark in the boxes.
I hope that this helps.

In your Legacy program folder, do you have the 'Forms' and 'Interview'

And a decent mailing list server could probably be configured to strip

Re: [LegacyUG] Sibling relationships

2009-01-07 Thread Anne Hildrum

I do agree that people should turn it off. However there
are quite a few who are unaware that they have it turned on,
some have no idea what this is all about. Remember there are people
who do not have all that knowledge about computers, they just want to
do some genealogy, and send some mails, and have it all set up for them by
others.

To ask someone kindly to turn it off in a nice way is fine, and why not send it
directly to
the person in question? I really don't need to read all those mails regarding
it. I have it
turned off so of course I don't get those requests. Someone needs to see I have
received their
email, will pretty fast get an answer from me.

Sometimes however those requests are not made in a very nice way. No wonder
there are
wars going on, if we can manage to get this upset about such a small thing.

Someone asks for a receipt, send them a polite privately mail and explain. May
be for ease
and kindness we should have a how to ready for the different email programs to
send them.

RE: [LegacyUG] De or DE, Of or OF

2009-01-07 Thread Jeannine Powell - GenQueen
Elizabeth: I think a possible solution would be to add another surname as an
AKA (without the de or of) and then in the name list request that AKA's be
included in the list; although by memory I am not sure whether this option
is only available in index view in Legacy 7 Deluxe. That way, you will see
the names in both the D and the B (using the example you gave).

This is how I've done it, anyway.

Cheers!

Subject: [LegacyUG] De or DE, Of or OF

Just wondering what the most usual form is for old surnames. I have a
number of people using either 'of ' or 'de' attached to their surname.
I have been accustomed to linking this to the end of the given name rather
than at the beginning of the surname. This results in mixed lists of
surnames, e.g. the De Bohun family could come under D or B.
Obviously it would be easier to have them together in the index, name lists
etc. My original thought was that they should come under B, but I have
found the convention seems to be that they should be under D.
