Re: [LegacyUG] Disabled Landscape option for Pedigree Report

I had the same problem a while back, and this is the reply I received (it's
probably in the Legacy archives):

Try using the Books/OtherPublishing CenterPedigree Chart. Once in the
Pedigree chart dialog, go to the Options tab and select page setup and you
should be good to go.

Seems strange, but it worked.

[LegacyUG] PDF Pedigree Reports

2009-07-09 Thread Anne Picketts
Has anyone had instances of pages being duplicated while making *.pdf
reports?
I have printed a 37 page PR and noticed that page 10 and 11 are
*exactly*the same, although the pages are numbered correctly (i.e. in
order).

On page 10, the last entry states 'cont 27'; on page 11, the last entry
states 'cont 28'. I checked pages 27 and 28 and these are exactly the same
too.

Can anyone comment on this please?

I have been through all the printer properties, printer setup menus that I

'portrait' - the 'landscape is greyed out' in the page set-up. (Using

Re: [LegacyUG] How to identify the commonly used first name?

2009-02-08 Thread Anne Picketts
If you have a large database (or even a small one) - use the a.k.a.,
otherwise you will pull your hair out looking for an individual in the
index. Make sure you have include Alternative Names checked in the
options on the name index.

I know if someone had a name Elizabeth and went by Betty that you would
enter Elizabeth Betty in the first name field. Not sure that someone
named Robert Blair who went by Blair should be entered at Robert Blair but
how else to show this is the name he used?

Perhaps some folk are 'copying' files from one to the other rather than

Re: [LegacyUG] New User Problems

2007-07-16 Thread Anne Picketts
I always put nicknames in the same space with the first name:

As your database grows you will have enormous problems with indexing if you
do that. I use the AKA feature - much more efficient.

 Last Name: Smith

 First Name: Wayne Alan Snuffy

That way, if you upload to rootsweb for example, someone who searches
for him using only his nickname (maybe that's all they ever knew him
 by) would still find him.

If you use the AKA, Snuffy will show as Snuffy - much easier to find in an
index.

I do the same when there are uncertain or
contested spellings of names so that either one will find him:

First Name: Wayne Alan Allen Snuffy

Use the AKA feature. Any other way brings considerable difficulties when
trying to find someone in the index. I look after a database of 65000+ names

have learned from experience that the KISS system applies - keep it simple.

What do you do about surnames that may have many variations. I am so
thankful for my Sharp family. But I have Garretts, Delaneys, and
Tidrows that have been spelled many different ways.

partly because I got confused as to which one to buy. Can anyone
suggest which one works best with Legacy “ it™s my only disappointment
with the Deluxe Legacy that it doesn™t have good standard tree type
