RE: [LegacyUG] Master Location List help

2009-11-11 Thread Charles Apple
Thank you Brian,

Yes the mapping started working again last night (10 Nov 2009) and is still
working. It does appear that it was a problem on the BING end.

Thank you for your assistance,

Charles E. Apple

Yesterday I added a problem report to our tracking system since I could
duplicate this. Today the mapping seems to work as it should.

I "think" the problem was on the BING end of the mapping. Charles, is
mapping working for you now?

[LegacyUG] Ref: Impossible to unsubscribe?

2009-11-11 Thread Charles Apple
As a new Legacy user, I appreciate Legacy for providing us with this *opt
in* service, free of charge. It is a valuable resource for me to learn from
other users that are far more experienced than myself. During my short
experience with this list, I have read many postings from people all around
the world, and their viewpoints assist me in becoming a better researcher.

I welcome the volume of email from this list. I view it as an *Opportunity*
for me learn something that I did not know before.

[LegacyUG] Location Mapping

2009-11-10 Thread Charles Apple
I received the following reply from Legacy Technical Support regarding the
Mapping issue;

"This is a new issue, probably occasioned by a change at Microsoft Bing Maps
(formerly Virtueal Earth). It was logged earlier today as issue number
0002956: "BING Interface No longer works to position map" and has a high
priority for the programmers attention. The fix should apeear in a free
update to the Legacy program. I don't not have a schedule for when that will
happen. Please watch for it."

Hope this helps to resolve some concerns.

[LegacyUG] Master Location List help

2009-11-09 Thread Charles Apple
I have been cleaning up my Master Location list. Previously, when I selected
a location the Map would automatically zoom to that location, with a Large
Red push pin pointing to the Lat. And Long. For the location.

For some reason that has stopped. When I select a location, the map remains
static, regardless of the location, and the Large Red push pin has
disappeared.

How can I correct this?

Just in case, I am using Legacy 7.0 Deluxe, on Windows XP Pro. And IE8.0

Thanks

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy vs. TMG

2009-10-27 Thread Charles Apple
Hi Jackie,

Welcome to the list. Yes, I switched from TMG 7 to Legacy 7.0 Deluxe, and I
would definitely "NOT" switch back to TMG for a variety of reasons. I had
been using TMG for about 15 years. Although it is a daunting task to clean
up all the records, the finished product is well worth the effort. I would
suggest asking yourself one question, and let the answer to that question
dictate your actions. What is your Vision for the final outcome of all of
your research? Finally a Quote from Stephen Covey "Keep the End in Mind."

Hope this helps and good luck.

Charles

Please don't boo me off the list yet. I used Legacy 4 and liked it. Then I
switched to TMG because at that time I thought it was better. I took a look
at Legacy 7 last night, and am thinking of switching back. Except for all
the data entry work. I do realize I can import some, but there will still be
cleanup work. Have any of you switched from TMG 7 to Legacy 7? And what are
your thoughts? If you prefer to email me off-list, I'm at
bakerj...@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Jackie Baker

[LegacyUG] SourceWriter output question

2009-10-25 Thread Charles Apple
On some of the SourceWriter templates (for example the Family Group Sheet)
the address is displayed as [ADDRESS FOR PRIVATE USE,] in formatting the
output for Footnote/Endnotes and Bibliography. What controls this display,
and where is it located?

I have searched, and searched and can't find it.

Thanks Richard for the instructions on converting sources with Access. And
thanks to all other users that offered their helpful support. Us newbies
need all the help we can get. Maybe someday (soon I hope)I will be able to
return the assistance and help others in this User Group.

Hi Charles,

If you have MS Access I can give you instructions for that.

If not, the your best bet is with ltools. See:
http://zippersoftware.com/ltools/index.htm

You can download a free version with some basic tools or upgrade to deluxe
for a small fee and get lots of tools to do things with your Legacy data
that you can't do in Legacy.

Source conversion with Access or ltools is very easy to do but it just adds
the SR template which you have to fill in yourself. No use waiting forever
for Legacy to add their own SourceWriter as there is absolutely no way they
can produce a tool that will fill in the template for you with the
conversion.

[LegacyUG] Converting Basic Sources to the SourceWriter

2009-10-23 Thread Charles Apple
I have switched from TMG 7.0 to Legacy 7.0 Deluxe. Since I had to do an
import via GEDCOM I am in the process of cleaning up 7,000 plus records. All
of the Source's imported to the Basic Source System. Since the Source
Conversion Tool has not been released yet, has anyone figured out the
easiest way to convert sources in the Basic Source System to the
SourceWriter?

I read Geoff Rasmussen's article, dated 18 June 2008, in the archives
referencing his method of manually converting Basic Source's to the
SourceWriter. Since the article is more than a year old, I was just
wondering if anyone has come up with an easier way. I apologize for bringing
this up, I am sure it has been thorougly discussed before. That's one of the
problems with being a Newbie.

Thank you for your assistance,

Charles
