[LegacyUG] Computer Crash - Lost Legacy Program:

2009-10-26 Thread Deborah K. Millemaci
My computer crashed Friday and and I lost all my files along with the Legacy
Program itself. To make matters worse...I hadn't backed up my files...so they
are gone as well. I have paper files that I can start from scratch with...but
what do I do about the program itself. I have Legacy version 6 and I know it
was upgraded. Do I reinstall Legacy 6.0 and then try to upgrade at the Legacy
site?? - Deb

[LegacyUG] Previously entered Data not showing up with version 7 ??

2008-07-21 Thread Deborah K. Millemaci
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  Recently installed
version 7 on my laptop...and tonight I was editing information and it "appears"
that all the information I previously entered on my descendants (funeral info,
stories, etc. is not showing up when I click on a name...this is happening with
all my names.  Also, all the descendants are not showing up that I had
previously before the update.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?? - Deb

Deb,

Firstly your PC; it sounds like you have two versions installed here. I would
uninstall and reinstall (but see (2) below)

Laptop: You do not say how you are putting it onto your laptop. You cannot just
copy the program as it has to be installed. There are two ways of doing this
(1): download/install onto the laptop from, the Legacy Website or (2): Instead
of installing direct to your PC choose to save the setup file from the Legacy
website (saving to your Desktop will do fine) then double click it to install
onto your PC. Now copy the setup file onto your laptop and doubleclick it to
install on this machine.

When finished you can delete the setup files.

Deb,

Just wondered - I was puzzled!

If you delete the Legacy 5 from the Desktop all you are doing is deleting the
Icon, nothing else. This is true of pretty well all programs, as very few will
install to the Desktop. You main find that some programs use the Desktop as
storage for a set-up file from which their program is installed onto your
computer (Open Office is one example) but when the program has been installed
even that can be deleted.

Deb,

I cannot understand why you might wish to go back to version 5. However, You
are correct version 7 does overwrite previous versions if it is installed in
the same folder. Furthermore, if you have run version 7 then an earlier version
will not be able to open your files. If you haven't over written your
back-up you should be able to use File>File Restore to open in an earlier
version.

Oh, and why is it a
 problem?

[LegacyUG] RE: Problems Downloading Update

2006-08-27 Thread Deborah K. Millemaci
Is there a chance there is possibly a "gremlin" preventing so many of us from downloading the update??  Is this something that can be fixed by tech support...?  I've tried everything suggested in the forum messages - it works for some and not for others.  It's not working for me...
