[LegacyUG] Legacy 7.0 user's guide
Hello. In the last Legacy News, it says there is a Legacy 7 download available for $9.95. Is this download the same as the softcover guide that is mailed with Legacy 7 program cd, or has it be updated? [LegacyUG] updating to v7
Hello all, I'm rather embarrassed to post this since this topic was covered several months ago, but here goes: For those of us who have lagged behind and not updated our programs, what is the concensus at this point--bite the bullet and go with the flow or continue to hang back because of problems? At some point, will the older versions no longer be supported? [LegacyUG] entering first-person
Hello, I have always heard that it's best to begin entering data with yourself as #1. I've done this and know it is a practice followed on this list. That said, I recently attended a genealogy conference where the speaker was strongly suggesting that if you have only one child, that child should be entered as #1 and by doing so, a clear picture of both parent's families would result. Has anyone tried this? I brought up the fact that starting with the child will change the usual numbers seen on a pedigree form, but was countered with Numbers are not important. The fact that I have one child is allowing me to consider this option, but after entering hundreds of names into Legacy, I'd hate to have to start over and I won't do it without the expert advice on this list. Does the speaker's suggestion have merit? Any thoughts? Thanks so much, Lavern Hall ** $10 OFF when you spend $50 or more in our store. Use coupon code: Legacy2008 at checkout. Thank you all for taking the time to discuss this matter and for offering such solid advice. I've been happy with what I'm doing (creating my family history as a legacy), and, as the old saying goes, If it ain't broke, don't fix it surely applies! :-) Lavern Hall .. ** $10 OFF when you spend $50 or more in our store. [LegacyUG] How do you handle your files?
Thanks to all for your prompt and thorough response to my post. Looks like I've got some homework to do, then perhaps a few follow-up questions. Have a great day! Lavern To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: [LegacyUG] How do you handle your files? Hello everyone: I am new to this group and to working with the Legacy program, however, I'm not new to genealogy as I've been working on my family tree (off and on) for several years. During that time, I've accumulated a *lot* of information and it's high time I get it entered into the Legacy program. To that end, I would appreciate some guidance or perhaps some reassurance that I'm on the right track. Eventually, I want to put the data into a book format so I need to know how to enter the data correctly from the beginning. I started by creating a family file using my married name and entered data on myself, and then working backwards, entered information on my parents, grandparents, etc.. I've completed my direct line as far back as I possible and believe I entered the information correctly. What concerns me is the volume of information I've obtained on collateral lines and how best to enter that information: Is it a good idea to break collateral lines down into family groups and record each line into a separate file or just maintain one huge file? If collateral lines are put into separate files, who should be the first person entered into those files? I would appreciate knowing how any of you have handled this situation in your files.
