Hi Carol,

I have used Pocket Genealogist for several years and I love it. Works great
with legacy. I use a windows mobile device. The user manual is very good and
the software guys are as responsive as legacy to answering questions. They
also have a user group that so far has been very friendly.

Tell it to search locations and change Co. to County, ALA to Alabama etc.

Thanks Dave! Man, I know it's getting pretty late bacause I just
totally missed the scroll bar on my detail screen! Now it works
perfectly!! It's really too bad the fields can't all fit on one page
because I'll bet you that more people than just me are going to
overlook this too. It might be worth it to try to reformat this a
 little in a future update.

Geoff, I apologize for taking up so much of your time on this because
I know you are very busy with other stuff right now. I think we will
all really appreciate the hard work you have put into this source
writer once we get used to using the input fields.

I still would love it if you could share with us some of the practices
you have used in converting your sources over. Do you update a single
census master source for a single county and then convert all the
detail associated with that new source, or do you work through all the
master sources first and then work through the myriad details attached
to them? This is just something that I'm sure would benefit many of
us. You could sort of bring us along on your learning curve.

Anyway, I can now go to sleep and dream about tomorrow's task ahead of
me in converting at least some of my census sources. The output looks
 good to me now!

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy vs TMG

2008-05-29 Thread Roberta Wunder
I downloaded a trial of TMG last night to see what all the fuss about
Witness' was about.

Took quite awhile to download, quite awhile to install, and after an
enormous amount of time waiting for the process to import my current
database - I got tired of waiting and went to bed, this morning the computer
was locked up and still no database.

I poked around the sample database and was not impressed.Very Busy
Interface. Relationships are scattered all over the place. Adding People to
events instead of events to people as in Legacy did not seem to save me much
in the way of time/effort. I found it hard to look at people as family units
with TMG's layout. I perused the Manual for TMG and was not overly excited
about anything I found there either.

I am not looking to change from Legacy just browsing, Killing a bit of time,
and hopefully learning a few things but I'll delete the whole thing when I
get home tonight, as definately not for me.

Since this is not the first time I have not been contacted by sales, and I

About 4 months ago I wanted Legacy V6 for my local library, I had to call

Everyone except sales has been very responsive, so I see no reason to Throw

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy on Portable Hard Drive

2008-05-12 Thread Roberta Wunder
Also to consider with truly portable hard drives (the new ones that power
from your computer instead of plugging into the wall) is that they require
TWO USB ports to obtain enough power on most laptops.

That said I have two portables the traditional plug into the wall type and a
new Power from Computer type. Makes a great backup drive. I keep all my
files backed up on it and purchased an USB double cable on eBay to keep in
my car and I just slip the drive in my pocket when heading to the library.
The file access is no different than my computer at home.

After Ver. 7 arrives, it would be awesome for the developers to put some
attention to a portable version of Legacy even if it had limited features.

2008-05-11 Thread Roberta Wunder
I was adding photos to events - Burial etc. The response from Don Brown did
the trick.

Thanks, Roberta

I give up ---

I must have accidentally turned off the polite request to add embedded
comments from my photos to the Description of the photo.

I have searched and searched, help and archives and cannot find how to turn
it back on. Does anyone know?
