Some pictures I can give an approximate date by the details (a birthday
party, a child's riding toy, the approximate year of a car in the
background, a high chair in the corner, the size of a tree, whether the
porch is screened in, etc). Some I can date to a decade by the style of
the clothing - but bib overalls in front of a farmhouse limit you to
dating by century ;-)

The date of the picture - if I'm lucky enough to know it - or an
estimated date.
However mostly I end up leaving it blank.
