[LegacyUG] Entering same gender partners

2008-02-02 Thread Art Fabian
When I try to enter a new "spouse," Legacy forces me to use either a male
husband or female wife. How do I enter same gender partners? Surely, in
this day, some of you have come across the same situation.

Thanks for any suggestions -- Art

RE: [LegacyUG] Entering same gender partners

Will Legacy Version 7 make provision for the recording of same-sex
relationship and same-sex marriages?

As most of you know, here in Canada same-sex marriages are not only lawful
but also protected by our Human Rights Charter (part of our constitution),
so over time many of your Canadian Legacy clients will have occasion to want
to enter this marriage information about their gay relatives in their
genealogy databases.

In my rather limited family tree, I have three same-sex marriages (my own
included) that I would like to record as marriages and not as common-law
relationships, "friendships" or "partnerships" whose "relationship
commencement date" is defined (as it is by Family Tree Maker) as the day
that they met.

Thanks.

Stan

P.S. I sincerely hope that you do not conclude that my asking this question
is in any way a "political or social commentary, activist issue, religious
opinion or morality lecture". (I just joined this user group a few days ago
and would hate to be kicked off so soon.) It is a simple, dispassionate and
objective observation that society is changing, and asking if Legacy will be
keeping up with those changes or not. Having to use a "work-around" is a
very distasteful way to treat anybody's spouse.

2008-04-14 Thread Sherry/Support
This has not been addressed for Legacy v7.

To handle these relationships, it will require extensive re-writing of
Legacy's code and would cause a ripple effect that would affect several of
the Legacy add-on programs made by other companies.

Thanks for using Legacy.

RE: [LegacyUG] Entering same gender partners

2008-04-14 Thread d . mossfritch
Afternoon Stan,

Allow me to preface my comments by stating I am not a beta tester for version
7, so I have not yet evaluated the actually content of the upcoming software.

Jim Terry kindly referenced a page from one of my two domains, the specific
page dealing with Legacy and a 'work around' to record the information about
which you ask. As that page identifies, Legacy provided (well, actually Jim
provided) information about changes in version 7. Once Legacy releases version
7 I will be adding the new information for that version to my site. Those
changes go a long way to assisting.

Best,

 Denise L. Moss-Fritch
