I certainly do not claim to be "more wiser" but I think I know what to
do about spam on the list - IGNORE IT.

The thread relating to this latest piece of spam has generated 22
messages so far - and I am aware that I am now creating a 23rd. That's
23 messages that should have no place on this list and which many people
on dial-up have, in effect, had to pay to download. 22 of them could
have been avoided.

Sorry Sherry, I did not think about converting to plain text. - my main

I am not now replying on list. Enough has gone on already but I do
appreciate the support from yourself and Susan Daily.

Maybe some one more wiser could draft a comment on what to do in the event

months - from anywhere.

Look forward to meeting you later this year on the cruise.

Re: [LegacyUG] February 74% OFF

2008-02-14 Thread Susan Daily
GMAIL filtered the spam for me, too, so all I saw was Paul Brown's
reply. Unfortunately, Mr. Brown included the spam inside his email,
which did go through to my in box and I opened it. Notice how there is
an image file embedded in the email? Anyone who accessed that image
allowed the spam writer to view your IP Address (I believe that is how
it works, but if I'm wrong I'm sure there will be at least five of you
to point it out). Fortunately, GMAIL provides a warning and asks me if
I want to view the image file or not. I certainly did not, so my IP
address remains safe.

In future, I would suggest if spam arrives in your inbox that you do
not open it, but if you do, please definitely do not respond with it
inside your email to the list!

This has happened a few times with RootsWeb's mailing lists.

filters (such as Gmail from time to time) also filter regular

Re: [LegacyUG] February 74% OFF

2008-02-14 Thread Ron Bernier
Mike,

Congratulations on your outstanding ISP being able to think for you. I
prefer to do my own thinking. I let my ISP determine what is and isn't
spam, but I retain the decision to delete or not delete. If the powers
to be at Millennia had more concern for their customers, the garbage
contained in the spam message would never have reached any subscriber's
mail box. But, Millennia has chosen to use a software that can't even
block the simplest HTML message.

Because you haven't seen any thing with this title, doesn't give you the
*right* to assume that
some one is just moaning.
I have also received this SPAM.

My ISP is user-friendly - it prevents 99% of all SPAM from reaching me :-)

In my recollection, however, having been a LUG member for 3 years
(almost to the day, actually!), this is the first such spam that I've
seen here. Hope it's not the start of something, though, I'd hate to
have to unsubscribe!
