[LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List
At the Marriage Information input screen, a Marriage Status can be selected from the "Master Marriage Status List" that is displayed by clicking the down arrow beside the Status field. There you can select a status from the list, or add a new status. If "Divorced" is selected, then in the narrative in the "Descendant Narrative" report includes the sentence "The marriage ended in divorce." If a specific date for the divorce has been input, eg November 13, 2008, the sentence will be "The marriage ended in divorce on November 13, 2008." I would like to change the wording of the narrative for the status "Divorced" from "The marriage ended in divorce." to "They were divorced." How do I do that? I experimented with the "Events/Facts" feature, but the "Noted Events" caption in the report is just more clutter. I have used Microsoft Access to develop and maintain a number of applications, but I have been unable to find the table in Legacy where you can make such a change. [LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List
Hi, I was viewing the Marriage Status list which currently has 7 items in it, one of which is "Married." When I highlight the Married status from the list and click Show List, I get "No records were found that use this marriage status." Now, I _know_ I have married people in my file since when I run the Marriage List report, it contains 1243 families. Marriages also seem to appear correctly in reports and in the descendant and pedigree views. 1. Why isn't the Married status linked to any of my marriage entries? 2. What are the consequences if they aren't linked? 3. What do I gain by linking the status Married to my marriages? (this is probably another way of asking #2) 4. How can I fix this so they are linked? It's interesting to note that other marriage status items like Divorce and Annulled do have linkages to people in my file as expected. It's just odd that the most common status is not linked at all. I also checked Legacy program help and it explains how to add, delete and change statuses, but doesn't really say what the purpose of theses statuses are and why they are needed. So far I'm thinking they are used only for statistical purposes. Thanks for any assistance! Dennis Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? So my guess this is hardcoded. You could always create your report in rtf format and edit the wording yourself ... a definite PITA. If you make the report first and If you have a decent text editor, a global Search & Replace on a phrase would take about a second. - JL JLog - simple computer technology for genealogists http://www.jgen.ws/jlog Dennis M. JL: True ... if that is the only change you need to make in the rtf. I rarely if ever use rtfs, but as I recall in V6 you also have to go back and manually re-add any pictures using winword. There may be other changes that need to be made to make the rtf look more or less like the Legacy Preview. Maybe rtfs are less work in V7. But in V6 they are a PITA, especially if the only reason you need to create the rtf is to globally change the wording of a single sentence. RE: [LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List
Dennis, It's what is called a labour saving device as for all other purposes Legacy assumes a couple is married unless otherwise specified in the Marriage Status field. To answer your questions: 1. It is not linked unless you type it in. It is in fact a "Null" entry in the feild 2. none 3. nothing 4. Type it in You can include divorced, Separated etc in reports should you so wish. Personally I don't bother. Especially as some on my tree might not be too keen on seeing that their grandfather was a bigamist :) Ron Ferguson _ For Genealogy, Software and Social visit: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/fergys/ *New Blog* - Improve Colour Photos with The GIMP Includes the family tree for Alan J Grimshaw http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/fergys/Grimshaw/ __ From: Dennis Davenport <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: [LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2007 17:21:23 -0800 Hi, I was viewing the Marriage Status list which currently has 7 items in it, one of which is "Married." Re: [LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List
Ok, thanks Ron. I loaded the sample Legacy database and noticed that none of the marriages in that file are linked to the Marriage status either. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something going on with my particular file. Re: [LegacyUG] Master Marriage Status List
Dennis, Just coming to this message, having being away from the list for a while. I would only use the "Married" marriage status in situations where an individual was married already at the time of this marriage, i.e., either a bigamist or began living with a new partner while still married to an old partner.
