Re:[LegacyUG] Witness Information
Hi Gail, Thanks for the info regarding the export of witness information. As an after thought I mentioned a birth being reported by someone, usually the mother or the father or a relative, which would be a different type of event from a marriage in the presence of two people. Of course the information could be entered in the notes and maybe this inforamtion could be set up as a citation? The reason why the witness information field is important to me is that I keep seeing the same surenames over and over, usually it is a mother or father or in-law, which is reflective of family interaction, which helps to add life to the research. Any thoughts or am I going over ground that has been covered before with suggestions that have already been offered to Legacy? I recently suggested being able to print labels for document copies, a function that is available in Bygones, does anyone else want to have this capability? It would be beat having to copy and paste and enter ID# that could get out of order from one data base to another. Also a lot of people are having issues with entering source/citation information, and I can understand why especially if you don't have experience writing academic papers/articles added to trying to figure out what inforamtion goes in what fields in Legacy, however there are good examples on various websites and the book Evidence Citations details every kind of citation a person could ever need for genealogical research. Of course that doesn't address the issue of getting the info into legacy, but you'll know what you need to enter and the format. That brings me to another issue, some are asking for a drop down box that would create a list of what needs to be filled in for a particular type of source, which would be nice however the only problem is that there are different types of formating rules for different publications, it could be MLA or Chicago standard etc., depending on the magazine or journal. I know that all of this is technical and doesn't apply to the average genealogist but these are things to think about when asking for a better way of entering sources and citation info in Legacy. Sorry to have bored anyone. -Philip Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? Legacy 6.0 Deluxe has 92 features not found in the Standard Edition. Re: [LegacyUG] Witness Information
Hi Philip, I use the event Associates for witness information. I cannot remember if this event is in Legacy or if I added as a custom event. Associates is a standard tag in gedcom. ASSO {Associates}:= An indicator to link friends, neighbors, relatives, or associates of an individual. Re: [LegacyUG] Witness Information
Philip, When I get information from a relative via phone or email, I create a Master Source for that person and put the date I got the information in the Detail. Would this work for your birth situation? On 6/26/07, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Gail, Thanks for the info regarding the export of witness information.
