Pat,
With the information you have given, and presuming you don't have formatting
codes in your text, the italics indicates persons of unknown gender. The
bold indicates the person is a direct line ancestor, if you have that set.

Hi all,
Some time ago I imported a gedcom in which some of the names and their data
were in italics while others were in bold. While I'm cleaning up all the
data after transferring the database from FTM to Legacy, I'd like to get rid
of all of the formatting I do not want. How do I go about it and is there a
way to clean it up globally? I've tried individually deleting the name and
unwanted data formatting then reentering it in normal text but that didn't
work.
