Re: [LegacyUG] Adding pictures problem

My point was that the person using V4 and having
problems with 'current' photos may be using some types
that were not 'created' until afterwards. Thanks for
the info. I hope it helps the person.

Jeff,

I know that you have indicated that you have plenty of memory available on
your PC. however, I am less than certain that this is the only criteria. I
have noticed many times that when I have large size pictures attached to
sources Legacy does not always show them but if I reduce their size then
they do.

When this starts to happen I batch reduce the size of the larger pictures. I
also only use .jpg - in case you are not aware Legacy is not too happy with
.jpeg.

Susan and Sherry,

It seems odd to me that one page of a two-page document would have that LZW
compression and the other wouldn't. (I have several examples of Legacy
recognizing one page but not the other.) I certainly didn't change any
important settings in between, when I copied them from the microfilm.

Still, when I changed the format from tif to jpg on one of the problem
files, Legacy recognized it, so I suppose that was indeed the problem.
Thanks for the help.

Jeff

Jeff,
I did a search in Help for "TIF" and came up with this possibility:
"Legacy recognizes all TIFFs, except those employing LZW compression,
which should be avoided."

Not sure how you can tell which is which. Hope this helps. (There are
more TIF items in Help which I did not read.)

Rich,

Legacy 4 was the current version from 6 mar 2002 to Nov 2003 when the
last update for 4.0 was issued. These dates were taken from the revision
history for Legacy 4.0 here:

Jeff,

It sounds like you have TIF files with LZW compression. Legacy v4 won't
recognize those (patent issues) but v6 will.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Can someone please tell me what causes the Load Picture window not to
recognize certain photos in standard formats? I use 4.0 Deluxe. When I
navigate to these photos in the Load Picture window, the preview box stays
empty. If I click "OK" anyway, the Display Picture window is empty, too,
and the Picture Gallery adds a blank photo. Slow loading is not the
problem; they are not loading at all.

A specific example. I have a folder of land deed scans on my hard
drive. My non-Legacy image viewers can display every scan just fine. But
the Load Picture window only recognizes about half of them, even after I
copy them into my Legacy Pictures folder. All of these scans are the same
format (tif), and all were originally copied from microfilm with the same
machine at the same time. All are under 1 MB in size, and file size is not
the determining factor between what Legacy loads and what it doesn't.

I've successfully added many, many pictures, but what am I missing here?

Thank you.

Jeff
