RE: [LegacyUG] Deleting whole brances of tree

2006-11-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thank you, Geoff!

I entered a whole group of collateral lineage today,
and used the advanced tagging and advanced sourcing
to do the sources. It was wonderful and fast. Of
course, I know to look at my tagged group before
performing any action on them.

Over the years of collecting genealogy data, I have
discovered that I have lines that stretch back into
antiquity ... as in before year 1000 AD. Most of this
has come from the FamilySearch genealogy data, and
really isn't verified.

I have come to the conclusion that 99% of the
genealogical information before AD 1500 is pure
speculation, so I need to purge my database of most
of mine.

I am finding whole branches of dubious info, and
having backed up the total database and created one
that is purged to work on, I need to know if there is
a way to delete a whole line, as in choosing a
patriarch born about 1500 and then deleting all of
the related ancestors to both parents.

2006-11-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks, Ron ... I sort of did a round about way of
doing my deletions. I particularly liked the way it
asked for confirmation before deleting family groups.
I feel quite good about my results.

I have an elderly uncle (b. 1918) on my father's side
who is still alive and kicking, and sharp as a tack.
He did quite a bit of genealogy on that side of the
family years ago, but stopped about 20 years ago. I
just sent him a cascade pedigree chart of that side
of the family, which included all of the Kings and
Queens dubiously related to our family. I cannot wait
to hear his reaction.

BTW, I saved a copy of the full database, with all of
the pre 1500 people.

Laura,

Use "Advanced Deleting". You will see it under Tools
and also in the Name
List under Options. The Name List is also used to
display results of a
search.

Once in the Advanced Deleting tool, you can remove
groups on a specified tag
or those included in the last search results. You
will also have the option
to "Confirm Each Deletion".

If you have many to "prune" from your database, it
would be well to prepare
a Focus Group of those that need to be removed. Then
you can use the
"Miscellaneous Searches" tab and click the "Focus
Group" radio button to
have everyone in that group located. Be sure to also
click the button
labeled "Clear List before this search" so that other
search results will
not be part of this selection. With the Focus Group
selected, use Advanced
Deleting to "Delete all individuals in the current
Search List".

=

By the way...I completely agree with your assessment
of data prior to 1500.
Removing it will make your database smaller and more
meaningful.

2006-11-05 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
What I have done for the pre 1000 is I have access to
the 'Burkes Peerages' and the 'Boston Evening
Transcipts'. I also transcibe all disagreements
available in any source. These Sources state how
reliable they are themselves. I only use the
FamilySearch stuff as a confirming of the above type.
I know that some of this is suspect. But don't state
that there are NO accurate records before any exact
date, just less available.

Hi Laura,

You can mass-delete all those you have tagged with
the number 9 if you
