Oops! The To-Do List is meant to double as a research log that you keep as
a permanent record of negative as well as positive results.

Where do y'all document NEGATIVE searches? Do you just have a list under
the general tab? research tab?

Or, do you make a to-do for it and document that the search was negative? I
am not sure how that would work. Right now what I do is when I have done
something on the to-do list I just delete it.

2008-02-24 Thread ronald ferguson

Michele,

You are quite correct, there is not a really satisfactory way of dealing with
these. I also used to have them in my ToDos and deleted them if the results
were negative. Unfortunately because of the numbers it got to the stage that I
could not be sure whether I had properly checked something out.

Now I leave them in together with a comment regarding the negative outcome -
and usually a little more to vent my frustration :-).

The only thing I am concerned about is that the list of to-dos will get
confusing, which ones are negative searches and which ones are things I
still need to do!

Michele, like Kristin says, the To-do list is your permanent record of
your searches. You want to keep the negative ones so that you know you
did look for them once in those conditions. Just make a note of it in
the Results tab after you close it.

Another good thing, too, is that it dates when you closed it. You
might hear that they've added more data to a database, and so you can
see when was the last time you checked a database, and do more looking
if appropriate.

Ones that you still need to do will have an "open" status. If it's
negative, it will be closed as it will be completed.

2008-02-25 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I put the name of the source, the pages 'no one' was
on. I also try to guess why they are missing. Some of
my family is missing on a census but they are there
before and after.(Other years)I don't solve it BUT
document they are missing, between the neighbors. Why
may be impossible.
