RE: [LegacyUG] Embarrassed to ask...
I agree with Mary: it is intended to be the date you enter/record the info into your database. (I suppose as with anything else, you could use it for something else, though I'd be careful to be sure I was consistent and documented somewhere how I defined it so others who come along later would have a clue). By the way, notice that this field is available not just for census records but for all sources, and that there is a little button to the right Today's Date which allows you with one click to enter the date you recorded the info. I would document the actual date of census enumeration in Event Notes, or as the Event Date. --- On Tue, 12/16/08, M. Brenzel brenze...@roadrunner.com wrote: From: M. RE: [LegacyUG] Embarrassed to ask...
Roxanne, The answer to this question may depend on other factors such as the country and the exact day of the census. In England the census is always held over one night ( I think a Sunday) in each census year, so we can put the specific date in the Master Source and use the Recorded Date for the date on which we located the information - that is how I do it anyhow! I have a feeling that in the States the census can be spread over a period of time so for lumpers this may not be possible, but still possible for splitters! This may be another case of do what suits yourself and your way of working best. RE: [LegacyUG] Embarrassed to ask...
Ron, I understand about the census in the US being spread out over time. Indeed, in my own family, I have census records from November 20 1850 when the official census date that year was June 1. I do tend to record both dates, putting the official one in the Master Source Definition. I think what I am asking is what is the intended function of the Recorded Date field itself... or is it one of those things that can be whatever you want it to be? Thanks Ron, Roxanne Baird --- On Mon, 12/15/08, ronald ferguson ronfe...@msn.com wrote: From: ronald ferguson ronfe...@msn.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Embarrassed to ask...
