RE: [LegacyUG] Family Bible Sourcing - THANKS RICHARD HALLFORD!!

2007-10-10 Thread Rob Miller
Hi Richard:

That was it! Between Find My Past.com and the Canada Library & Archives I
located both his emigration and immigration passenger lists.

23rd May 1913 was the day before he sailed. :)

Thanks!

Rob

Thanks for this great reminder Richard!

It make me leaf through my gr-grandmother [Flora (Wilkes) Miller]'s Common
Prayer book. But it turns out it actually belonged to my gr-grandfather
[William Miller]. For inside the cover is written:

23rd May 1913
W. Miller
>From Flo

This is not William's birthday, their anniversary, or the birthdates of
their children. BUT William did emigrate X number of years before Flora and
the boys did [who I know emigrated May 1915]. What if she gave him this book
just as he was leaving for Canada!!? It now gives me a date to start reading
microfilms of passenger lists!

Thanks!

Rob

My advice, pull out every bible your family got. Have a look for any thinkg
you didnt notice before. After 60 odd years of my father in laws bible
hiding in a drawer, his daughter showed it too us and we found his army
serial number in it. This alone has given us a huge history of his regiments
movements and access to his army record. One little number, thats all we
needed to start the journey.

And be sure to leaf through the bible to see if there are any
"additions" such as newspaper clippings, photos, etc.
