Hi Joe,

Enter your Mary Ann BACON. Enter her first husband James MILLYARD and
the

marriage details. Enter her second marriage to Thomas AUSTIN - click on
the husband icon under her name in the Family View and then on "Add New
Husb...". The lady herself is entered only the once, but on the husband
icon you'll see the number 2 to indicate she had two marriages.

If you want to record that she was known by different names at different
times, you can use the AKA feature - that's the picture of three
staggered

heads, between sources and parents, in the Family View.

In the Name List, you can have the AKAs showing, or not, as you choose.
Turn it on or off by clicking on Options > Include Alternate Names when
the Name List is open. The AKAs are distinguished from "real" names by a
tilde (~) at the beginning of the AKA name, which does not affect the
alphabetic sorting.

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

Re: [LegacyUG] Fw: Widows

2007-01-13 Thread Cathy

Hi Joe,
The convention is to enter women with their maiden name - in your example
Mary Ann BACON

You then enter each of her marriages.

If you have already entered a second or third marriage, they don't
have to be entered in order but for reports to read correctly you
need to look at the Spouse list and put them in order. You can do
this by using the View menu and going to Spouse List or by right
clicking on her in Family View and choosing View > Husband List.

The reports then read correctly.

Some enter the various married names as AKAs so that she can show in
the Name List and Index View with her various surnames. You need to
turn on the option to include AKAs in the Name List and to include
AKAs in the Index View.

See both under the Options button.
I don't do this but add a Spouse columns in Index View.

Cathy
